This is a UK L322 2012 4.4 TDV8. It's October, and almost time for our local council to start throwing road salt around. I'm glad to have got this job done before the winter to extend the life of my L322.
If you don't address this now, the rear sill rust will very likely send your L322 to the scrappers.
And if you're thinking of buying one.. maybe this may help you to choose which car you buy.
I hope you find the video useful.

Nice little video! A job I do every other year. I usually take the whole side trim piece off and the rear arch liners. Rub any rust back, paint and then Lanoguard over the top. Removed those spongy things too... Although after 3 and half years, sadly I need to move my 2012 L322 on and its up for sale, hopefully the new custodian will keep on top of it this little job👍

@@paulmarriner5906 it really is disappointing. I guess most people only find out they have a problem when they try to jack the rear of the car up and the jacking point disappears into the sill.

Have been spraying hydraulic oil in all box sections on my vehicles for 30 years and never have problems like this ! , Range Rover P38 was the last one with a Chassis....superior body quality compared to later Crap !

@@settertwo bloody good idea. When I used to service my Citroen 2cv’s I would take the warm engine oil out and pour that in the top of the chassis. I may start doing the same thing with this L322.

As someone used to say half a job, it won't last you should have tackled accessible areas with rust converter and primer .

You’re right. I could have re-addressed some of the surface behind the wheel liner but I gave that a good soaking when I bought it last year. I may whip the liners out this weekend and see how they look.

@@bradtottman1425 I’m sure it’s mainly a UK issue or any other country that has salt spread on the roads over winter. Unlikely in Australia?

Very nice video showing how to lower the sill applique to get at the worrysome area. I did mine a few years ago, but will plan to do them again ASAP including the subframes . Looks like you are wearing the same gloves that I have just purchased, Gator gripz? they certainly seem a lot better after using them a few times compared to the normal blue gloves you find.

@Woodyrvf750 3 дня назад
@@neilwhite8131 thanks, glad you found it useful. The gloves are Premium Nitrile Extra think (8 Mil) disposable gloves. The brand on mine is Lanon LD49. My rule for gloves, if it’s not orange it’s not worth bothering with..

I've got an 03 Freelander which is resisting rust pretty well, with some help...Ive wire brushed areas of the underside and then used Hammerite. The only rust hole is by the front of rear wheel arch where the plastic trim retained moisture, so welded in about and inch square of steel.
@Woodyrvf750
@Woodyrvf750 День назад
Seems there’s a theme with plastic trims being the culprit here.

Uk is the place that Invented Rust. Why are you Surprised ?

@@barenekid9695 disappointed rather than surprised. I wonder if the UK invented the fine art of spreading salt when there’s the slightest risk of a morning frost? That wouldn’t surprise me either.

@@Peter-xm6ve I know what you mean. I think it’s a bit of a “quick fix”. The advantage for this particular job is that it’s very runny so my hope is that it will find its way into the sill seams.

I would normally use Dinitrol 3125 HS for cavities and bo sections. But in this case I wanted something very runny that had the best chance of finding it's way into the seams.
