I suffered with extreme pain radiating down my right leg into my foot. No one figured it out. Finally a doctor took an X ray. At this point, standing or sitting for almost any length of time meant extreme pain - taking showers left me in tears, sitting in class hurt, driving hurt. It was hell like. The X ray showed my vertebrae displaced by 70%. I was schedule for surgery a few months after that. Thank God. 🙏 That surgery saved my life really. I was going mad with the pain.
I just found out today that I have an L5 fracture and this video really explained a lot about what is going on. Thank you so much for taking the time to make it.
God Bless you Sir!; I've been a Dissabled U.S. Veteran for many years, and I haven't received for the last 6 years the right care and treatment with my degenerated disc deceased L-4/L-5,L-5/S-1,with Lumbar Scoliosis, that started in the late 1970's. Anyway,i hope soon(with God's help)to get my/the right diagnostic care for a future surgery,Thank you. 🙏😌😇😷✌
I just had an L4- L5 laminectomy and micro diskectomy. The main symptom was I couldn't pee, as well as lots of pain and pins and needles in my left leg. I'm now healing, less pain than in decades. Sure far, so good.
I have Spondylolisthesis with bilateral pars fractures and nerve roots being compressed on both sides. I get an epidural injection in my back, every few years, to alleviate pain down my hips and thighs. Lately I have been getting aching and pain in lower legs and ankles so now I’m thinking this is related to the Spondylolisthesis. Very helpful, thank you 🙏🏼
I birthed large babies...11 lbs 5 oz and 9 lbs 5 oz. I believe that damage was done to my spine and pelvis. No broken bones but possibly tearing of other tissues. Sciatica, low back instability since my 20s.
Excellent and helpful explanation. I have a follow up: Where might I find L5 differential diagnostic information on isolating transverse from lateral L5 compression? Your video talks about that. I am looking for an additional description for differential diagnosis.
I’m 3 weeks post L5 S1 Fusion. My right toe and middle toes are on Fire and numb feels like someone hit me with a sledgehammer. Way worse pain then the sciatica I had pre surgery. My Peroneal Nerve is so inflamed it’s crazy. I wish the best for you fellow sufferers!
Thank you, my doctor seemed to want to diagnose with me FND disorder on the first visit, not taking into account that I just had surgery to remove a 11cm ruptured teratoma in right pelvic area. Now mri show l5 s1 , disc dissection , posterior central disc protrusion and mild spinal canal narrowing. I have terrible back pain especially with movement, shooting pain in groin ,hip area , leg front /side and bottom of foot, weakness and difficulty walking, gait instability. Yet my doctor cannot come up with a diagnosis and says those issues does not cause leg weakness and walking issues. Very weird
Dr nabil please could you explain after decompression surgery the pain has gone in my leg.. but the opposite leg has problems with weakness in the foot..cannot put weight on it sometimes stumble thank you
Dear Nabil A, Ebraheim, M.D: Thank you for the instructional video on the L5 Nerve Root, I have a severe L5 herniated disc, but I also have CRPS starting in my L5 dorsum foot from a bunion surgery on my big toe in 2014, the pain transfers up my right leg and even is mimicked on my left leg that did not have surgery. My big toe remains with one screw imbedding it. I also have intervertebral Disc Herniation that causes Trendelenburg gait and effect the gluteal muscle and minimums muscle to flare up since I broke my fourth toe last week 7/23/23 my hernia has started to cause me great pain and great CRPS pain. I have formattable disc herniating L5 S1 which effect the upper nerve root, but now with a trauma to my fourth toe can you address CRPS in relation to the L5 nerve root and a triggered trauma of my 4th toe proximal phalanx oblique fracture.
Can I ask how it worked ? I have the same issues that are worsening with shooting pain in the gluteus down the front , and through the gastrocnemius muscle …my foot spasms between the big toe and third toes and I have to massage it to get it to relax. I too, want to avoid or hold off surgery and Im considering stem cell tx or a nerve block..I’d be curious to know ..What have you learned from treatment experiences?
I have spondylosis at l5 s1 the vertebrae has moved forward 10 mm. I have extreme hamstring tightness in the right side. My right leg muscle has also deteriorated by 25% compared to my left. Nobody seems to know what to do. Where can I get help? Thank you!
An MRI has shown that my L4/L5 disc is abutting and potentially impinging my L5 nerve root. I never have anything going down my leg - however, I do have my pelvis twisting and contorting when aggravated (and also sometimes extreme stabbing pain (sudden, like jolt) in my lumbar). The twisting looks very much like the positive trendelenburg gait symptom you mention in this video. This is the only place I've heard of this - and many people I've seen have been at a loss to what's causing my twisted pelvis. I'd assumed that it was my left side that was being pulled up somehow (and higher) - but after seeing this video, it's entirely possible that it's the right (opposite) side that's dropping (or a combination of both). I've tried stretches, strengthening, resting - it's just not getting better. I suspect it'll need surgery 🙁 If I get my life back though - definitely worth it! 🙏
@@bts_fan_rkive I had a cortisone injection earlier this year, which made a massive difference. It hasn't gotten rid of all the symptoms completely - but it's still WAY better. That's not a long-term fix, but it allowed me to start going back to the gym and doing a lot more strengthening. This has all allowed me to get my life back a bit - I'm still limited in that I couldn't just go out for a run. But for me, I enjoy weights at the gym - and the injection allowed me to go back to that, and I've been doing a lot more core exercises, hoping that it'll prevent me from keep on needing injections once it wears off (which it probably has done by now). For me, cat-and-camel exercise every day helps - and also from a strengthening point of view - the suitcase-carry exercise to strength my QL muscles have made a huge difference. Obviously, I'm just saying some main exercises that have helped me - it's by no means advice in any form! - as everyone's back injurys are different, and something that's good for one person, might be really bad for someone else. One book I'd definitely recommend reading though - is "Back Mechanic by Dr. Stuart McGill".
I have an L3,4,5 fusion, and suffer enormous pain if I stand longer than 5 minutes, or walk further than 50 feet. I had an Oblation on both sides, and have a spinal stimulator. Still I suffer. Do you have any suggestions, because my 5 surgeons have no answers.
Your video are extremely helpful in identifying my symptoms and nerve pathway pain. I have had an MRI, and the L-5 is definitely compromised with disc slippage at Grade 3 . I ve been keeping the pain at bay with regular Chiropractor and exercises learned from P/T. Recent flare- ups have me reconsidering the next treatment options..nerve block injection’s..At what point does one seriously consider surgical options ? Im concerned that their could be more permanent damage as a consequence. If any viewers have expereinces kindly respond as I would appreciate any feedback.
I'm in the same boat as you. The pain caused me to pass out almost a year ago and get post concussion syndrome. I've been in physical therapy at chiropractor place for a while now and keep getting flare ups and some neurological syptoms. It's been really tough. How are you now? By the way your German shepherd is beautiful. I recently had to put my German shepherd girl down. Miss her. She was only almost 8. She had a mass on her spleen.
@@cosmok6320 No , I am still able to manage the pain. The neuropathy down the leg causes issues and is more significant at night. I use the CBD/CBC/THC gummies and ibuprofen for sleep . I try to stretch . My life motto…Keep Moving.
I’m confused and hoping somebody could clear this up.. every diagram I see shows the femoral nerve branching out and going down into the big toe? I’m having tingling in the big toe and also when flexing ankle. So I assumed femoral nerve going off the diagrams. This says something completely different? Would be much appreciated if anybody could clear things up. Thank you
Looks good I am going to watch with my tv screen İt looks very nice and clear I wish I seen this 3-4 years ago I am saffering because Teaching is bad at the moment dominating by money
You don’t have to live in pain. Start off going to a reputable Dr. and go from there. Sometimes it is a long road to getting anything done so best not to wait too long.
I don’t know what is wrong with me. Running sensation mainly ankle and foot underneath, alternating in both sides. Irritated nerve back of right thigh no pain. Worse after sitting. Pain that moves around lower back mainly right side. Some muscle spasms. Had symptoms for 3 months then it improved for a month now symptoms are back again. Had mri I have small disc bulge L5, some facet joint inflammation and degeneration disc L4 abs L3. Which is causing the nerve sensation I don’t know and neither does my doctor. Been told that there is no visible nerve compression on mri. Toes raise up bit less on right foot. Have also had strange ache front of ankle where it joints the foot both sides. The sensation bothers me. I have been told it’s Likely muscular? 😒
I am paralyzed but can feel everything. I have a 8- 10 pain at my anus for 3 years. Have meds but won't use opiods. Have a spinal cord stimulator but doesn't work. Have been to every Dr and all say it's chronic nerve pain. Can't find a Dr to try botox or kill the nerves to anus. I have a colostomy cause I can't get out of bed into wheelchair which takes 10 minutes with help from 24/7 live in caregiver. I live basically in bed with a pillow under each buttock to keep anus suspended but only helps very little. Any suggestions please?
Try chiropractor, physiotherapy, hydrotherapy etc. Try all the natural stuff first, if that doesn't work, then I guess surgery. If I'm not better in 6-8 months, then I'm having surgery
Great video. Question about this L5-S1: There is a large right subarticular zone disc extrusion (sagittal series 5 image 9 and axial series 10 image 29). This significantly impinges upon the right S1 intraspinal nerve root and extends 9 mm posteriorly into the central canal. There is resulting severe right lateral recess stenosis and mild right neural foraminal narrowing. IMPRESSION: Large right subarticular zone disc extrusion at L5-S1 significantly impinging upon the right S1 intraspinal nerve root with severe right lateral recess stenosis and mild right neural foraminal narrowing.
I need a spine Dr really bad I have a disc degenerative disease in my l4 and l5 and 9 lost my curve at the top of my spine due to a chiropractor and my insurance is fighting it I have to sign an appeal tomorrow but I'm suffering so much my pain meds dont even touch it they just make me sick And i dont want to take them anymore I need help
I'm so sorry to hear about such a terrible situation. Surely there must be a way to reverse what they did to your vertebral column? Hopefully there are great doctors/professionals within your reach to really help you out. Good luck, and all the best.
