It was Gamzatti who killed Nikita with the venomous snake. (venomous, not "poisonous") as anyone into studying/owning reptiles will tell you. :) Back on subject, that slow dance Nikita does - the music makes me very emotional.

Magdaveya is the male slave to the great Brahmin who secretly helps Nikiya and Solor, and the slave who hands Nikiya the basket is the same who stops her from killing the princess and is called Aya. In act one, while Nikiya and Solor proclaim their love, the Brahmin secretly listens and swears revenge. He goes to the Raja who is mad that Solor, upon being bestowed such an honour, will secretly marry someone else, as he has plans to marry him to his daughter. The Raja issues a decree to kill Nikiya.
