great positioning from teuns. he's around sixth wheel at the base of the climb; compare that with Bala, who has maybe 12 riders in front of him and has to move up a ton. if Bala is on mas's wheel when he goes to the front, I think he wins this

That was so strange. Valverde looked like he was just about alongside, then sits and looks over his shoulder. Teuns never dropped Valverde, Valverde looked like he just ran out of gas maybe. It was the oddest thing to watch because normally, if Valverde pulls alongside like that with about 100 meters to go he would go sailing by with a finishing sprint. It seemed like he was completely sapped of energy at that point and he may have pushed too far into the red zone to get position and stay with Teuns.
