My brother graduated high school in 1972. After school, he got a job as a valet at a restaurant and could afford to share an apartment with a roommate just south of La Jolla on that pay. Real estate went up the roof. Love the shore break at Marine Street. I ran into Joan Rivers at a restaurant near Scripps beach.

When I was a kid, LJ people frowned on condescension. Its actually a form of rudeness according to the OED. We were taught that people with class are impartial and genuinely nice to everyone rich poor high low. It was considered low class to be a snob. You did your best to be empathetic and kind-hearted...so different from Bev Hills.

Perhaps one of the problems with poorly behaved new money types is they haven’t yet learned this. Everything has a downside, and one of the downsides of new wealth is you’re tempted to believe you’re superior in some ways. I’ve always had an a strong dislike for snobbery, and this comment offers a fresh perspective. Your comment will be screenshot, shat from printer, pinned to bulletin board.

Not snooty? Well, why then does La Jolla want to become its own city?

I have sold HVAC for many years in the SD area, and have run dozens of sales appointments in La Jolla. Yes, it is full of rich snobs. And many of these rich snobs are very cheap.

The taco stand is not that great the one in north Park is never crowded that says it all just another hyped up online Mexican restraint. Get the same rolled tacos that they all get.

Access and egress, ‘nuf said. That and the overall snootiness of the populous except for the surfers and old-timers. I do love swimming the cove - absolutely magical swimming with the sharks, seals and rays, never gets old.

Yup! Some of those beaches in La Jolla are just epic, especially the cove and blacks

You mentioned some areas give a better bang for the buck; can you name some? Thanks!

Carlsbad, Encinitas & Cardiff. You’ll be a tad more north, but your dollar will definitely stretch for the same type of vibe!

I’d move there just for easy access to “the taco stand”.
