Anyone know why it is impossible to get the full unexpurgated performance of the first song? Even the Dick Cavett channel completely cuts it, shows her sitting down to talk and her singing with Cavett afterward. Is the first song too powerful to be heard in its entirety?
I completely agree! I've been searching in vain for years for the complete performance. I wish PBS had just kept it unedited in their documentary! I found out that the Library of Congress has many of the episodes of The Dick Cavett Show in their possession, including La Lupe's episode. There is hope yet!
i feel justified in criticizing la lupe because she has been so overrated in some quarters. i don't mind her taking off her clothes, but she doesn't do it gracefully. as for her singing, anything she could do celia cruz could do better. castro probably shouldn't have thrown her out of the country, though; that was an overreaction.
