Right? I'm not sure what it is, maybe the mixing, but I randomly clicked on this video and loved the first song, then checked out their other music and didn't really like it unfortunately :(
as a predominantly EDM music listener, house, trance etc. kexp is a breath of fresh air and I've discovered some wonderful music because of this wonderful channel, both English and foreign. thanks guys !
in a man's world, I'm a real sucker for female-led electric guitar and singer-songwriters... god bless KEXP doing the lords work over here; a never ending font of incredible new bands to discover. people who say there's no good contemporary music have simply given up looking for it. never stop evolving; if you're bored then you're boring... in the great, vast sea of pop culture mumbling and auto tuned drivel, there are still real artists playing real instruments creating real music. and I'm all here for it.
Great comment. In the early 00s, I was turning into one of those people who have basically given up and become content to listen to my old favorites until I drop dead. Then Parquet Courts came along and opened the door for me. Contemporary bands I like now include Yard Act, Dry Cleaning, Gilla Band, Wet Leg, Sleaford Mods, Amyl and the Sniffers, The Chats, Squid, Aldous Harding, Kate le Bon, H. Hawkline, Protomartyr, etc. It's great to once again look forward to new releases. I try to turn my friends on to these bands, but they're content to just listen to their Cure and Pixies and Joy Division and Nick Cave records until they drop. Their loss.
@@yello33 i went searching for what I was reminded of and you're the first Warpaint comment I've seen yet. I'd definitely add them alongside OP's list. Nkce ear 💓💓💓
she's a faster drummer. more latino. La luz is a mix between SRV and surf music...and the Door's....not saying the drummer sucks, just that the band has to slow her down and let her listen to the major chords and the reverb accents that are so heavy in this band. for the life of me, i don't know why La luz on main stream and not just the local college station stuff..... god bless.
Love KEXP. This is my first time seeing and hearing La Luz and immediately hooked. Great vibe and sound, will be back cataloging for sure. Tickets for Dublin done 😊
Being of a certain age I was in the school of thinking that all modern music was rubbish. Over produced, homogenized robotic sound. Until that is 2 years ago when I discovered KEXP on RU-vid. Firstly watching the brilliant Kelly Lee Owens then Haelos and many other brilliant bands and now the superb La Luz. So thank you KEXP for bringing us all this great music and long may it continue ❤
Mariam was such an idol for me growing up learning how to play drums. The way she would dance around the cymbals while always sounding so creative and so comfy in the pocket. Idk the name of the new drummer yet but I'm so happy they were able to find someone to supplement that sound so well. Very similar and clean but with her own style I like it
I think this S/T is their strongest record. Shanna Clevelands guitar playing is always interesting and she has such a knack for finding the right note, and has amazing tone. Check out her fingerpicking on her solo records. She is underrated as a guitarist. The songwriting on the new S/T album is the best yet, and the harmonies are sweet! It's a bit darker and more psych. I think the world will catch on to her genius eventually. Maybe not this record but next.
The music reviewer had adviced me to check them to ad some surf elements to my sound and I loved their music so much! ❤️❤️❤️ Greetings from Ukraine! 👍🇺🇦💪
They're coming to town. Do I go because I know it'll be awesome, or boycott on behalf of Lena, Alice, and Marian. Not sure what happened to the band with such chemistry disbanding. Hope Shanna can steer the ship.
Coincidentally I was just watching the awesome 2017 KEXP performance by Ty Segal and the Freedom Band. Cheryl hosted and dug into Ty's producing ambitions. She noted that he had worked with La Luz, and jokingly lamented he "stole" them and took them back to LA. It's great to see them reunited!!! I'm sure it's a joy for Cheryl........and La Luz :)
after a hundred listens ..... the drumming is just epic .... not sure how Shana stole this gem but woooooooow Audrey is the real deal and then some!! out of this world talent 😛❤💜💙💚
A performance to be Treasured!! ......3 gifted musicians creating brilliance and aura unimaginable to the Muggles of the world then adding a world class drummer in Audrey Johnson makes this entire session a must have in your RU-vid collection Save it enjoy it indulge in it and be thankful you were alive to bathe in its majestical harmonic magic
Nice performance. I first saw La Luz at 7th St. Entry in Minneapolis, then at Subterranean in Chicago ( the band will remember the fire alarm) and then at Sleeping Village in Chicago. I see that will be at Lincoln Hall in March so that could be my 4th La Luz show.
I know this is from 7 months ago but wow! This performance is f****** incredible. I'm so impressed. Those are brilliant questions as well Cheryl. Thank you.!! Super bummed I missed you at desert daze last year. Very nice👍
