Francisco Franco was the best dictator of the 1930's. He refused to ally himself with Hitler and Mussolini, remaining neutral in World War II. He promoted labor rights, and saved hundreds of thousands of French Jews, not only allowing them asylum in Spain, but providing them safe passage to Portugal, and later on, the United States. He fought against Communism, and had the smallest cult of personality. Shortly before his death, Franco welcomed back the Spanish Royal family, and because of him, the Spanish Monarchy has been restored. Finally, Franco had only a small cult of personality. This song has nothing at all to do with Franco. The words are simply: "Long live Spain, Glory to the Fatherland," everything a national anthem should be. There are no words about Franco, raising arms in a military salute is what many countries do. If you put Franco into an arena with all the other dictators of the 1930's, he would beat them all. Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, Tojo, all of these were the most evil men ever. Franco would beat them because he is GOOD.

As a Brazilian what a Beautifull Anthem , i don't even need any translation too undestand every lyric . Praticly us Brazilians understand Spanish very well about 90% of the words some false friends can be tricky for us .

To be very specific, the Anthem during Franco's tenure never had any official lyrics. These were written by poet José Maria Peman and predate the dictator's regime(1928).

This march exist long before Franco. Its not from Franco. The lirics are outstanding. I dont care if it is from that era of 1940.

While Franco did make some mistakes (most notably causing violence in Spain after his death). It was not his fault, making him of one the few examples of a good dictator.

I remember when i was younger i learned to hate Franco. 1. I was left wing ( many are before paying taxes lol). 2. I had a left wing Spanish teach in High School. Now i am older and have read more i start to say that Franco did more good for Spain than bad. Especially in the beginning it was bad with starvation and harsh repression but later on with reforms Spain transformed into being a large and influential economy thanks to Franco. Now you see those Spaniards who were not even born when Franco died removing his monuments and legacy. Especially now when communist are part of the government ( WOW!) they try to hide bad policy by going back and altering the past. Spain also experienced more corruption after Franco death.

Though personally I despise Franco and think his regime brought much terror and misery to my country of Spain, I gotta say the flag looks dope and the anthem is still the best version we've had lol

All of you praising these lyrics should talk with the people who had to sing this song in school with their arms raised in a Nazi salute and whose parents were forced to give their kids Catholic names. Blows my mind how many lovers of fascism there still are in 2024. Go talk to your elders.
