The official name of the country at the time was the Republic of Colombia. Historians have adopted the term "Gran Colombia" ("Greater Colombia") to distinguish this republic from the present-day Republic of Colombia. At the time of its creation, Gran Colombia was the most prestigious country in Spanish America. The country included the territories of present-day Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Venezuela, and parts of northern Peru and northwestern Brazil.
The National Anthem of the Greater Colombia was "Marcha Libertadora". It was written by Zuliano Silverio Añez.
