Ok whatever their doing with the bulls/cows, is cruel! It looks like their teaching the horses to be scared of the cows and chasing them with plastic cows and real cows and scaring the crap out of them! IT'S CRUEL! If you don't believe think what would it be like to be put in a small pen with a scary animal chasing you all day??? Those horses were scared! And being pulled by a hundred pound thing on your back. So you have a bull chasing you, and your being pulled through pain in your mouth... hm
i agree, must be torment for them not being able to swat the flies and insects away, god put manes and tails there for a reason! it looks awfull, its not an excuse to say its for safety during foaling, even the poor foals have suffered the same fate, apart from that the horses are beautifull
The horses couldnt care less if they grow faster... Its only for humans and thats just wrong... Do you really think they have time to go bugspray all of those horses all day? I bet they dont...
that one horse who bared his teeth at the fake bull was absolutely gorgeous - that coat is to die for. Reminded me of an Akhal-Teke, the way it shone like metal.
On a working stud, mares have a full time job to do rearing their foals. That is why the stallions are ridden, because it doesn't take them all year to do their job! Plenty of fillies are sold to become riding horses away from the breeding environment, especially to countries like the UK where it is difficult to keep entires. In fact a mare, Ilustrada, became the champion of champions against stallions at the UK breed show one year (1997 or 1998).
It is ridiculous and cruel to do that to their manes and tails. Why would they take away what nature gave them as a defense against flies and other insects?
You have great horses, I'm impressed. it's a pity that in Poland those horses are not so popular. I love them so much. And that what You make with them, here we can only dream to raid so.
Yes I realize this Lapis Mosi but I prefer the straight profile! I got this by crossing my Halter Champion "typey" Egyptian Arab mare with a World Champion undefeated in get-of-sire class Andalusian sire & got exactly the best of both! When this youngster got excited, he would do the Spanish walk & trot in my back yard without any training. This is how prepotent his sire was! He also got the classic Egyptian "Raffles" profile!
Oh thats a good thing WLusitano's.Actualy to me the mare is mybe a little more important than the stllion in breeding.Obviously, but more attention is focused on stallions as they can freely and easily pass on their genes but there is nothing that beats a prepotent mare to pass on sporting potential and especialy good looks/conformation to colts.A bit like magic as its notalways aparent in a mares exterior.I get far more excited it has to be said when I see a good mare, so well done IIustrada!
I would like to see a mare occasionally under saddle, the whole Spanish Portuguese horse thing is somewhat skewered towards stallions which is a pity, maybe the whole macho thing. For myself I prefer mares they are less heavy (in the main) more gazelle like, cleaner fresh bright look. Plus you get a proper neck and head set that looks beautiful in dressage, thick necked stallions often look stiff lacking flexibility. This is not so much the case in the longer lined primarily German warmbloods.
Beautiful horses here, not suited for most modern equestrian sports sadly, like classic cars.Wonderfully classic Portuguese. Sexual dimorphism is stronger in this breed than most other breeds in that the mares besides having no crest etc have longer ears than the males,so you get a the mule look very easily when they're shaved reckon its sexist (: though the mares do spend most of the time in burr and tick infested terrain while the stallions frolic in 5star stables, wait a minute that is sexistLOL
I know you're from Spain, But the horses are Lusitanos a Portuguese breed from Portugal,( I'm shore you already knew that). Just said that because everyone thinks the PRE and the PSL are both Spanish breeds, and the Lusitano (PSL) is not Spanish. You're horses are beautiful you should bring a few stallions to the international fair of lusitano in Golegã, Portugal!
Congratulations! I breed a Brazilian horse breed, Mangalarga Marchador, which has its origins back in the Lusitano Horses. Like any other true horse breeder, and so lover of these magnificent animals, I'm glad to see the work you do there, and the great quality you achieved in the selection of your horses... again: congratulations!
Actually, if the mares had their manes and tails, I'd reckon they have the better deal. They get to be outside with their herd all the time and the stallions are locked in stalls all day except for training time. Would you rather be locked in a nice bathroom with a golden toilet and taken out only to train then put back in with no social time. Or would you like be out with your friend's doing stuff? Either way, it's healthier for a horse to have outside time. :)
I would like to see the mares in a bit better shape, I agree. But it is said that extremely fit mares have a harder time getting pregnant. And since they are pregnant all the time there isn't a whole lot of time t exercise them without putting a lot of stress on them. I also think that shaving of the tails also keeps the baby from getting tangled it tail hair during birth. I agree it isn't the most flattering look, but it has it's uses.
Yo le he dado a no me gusta, porque van a utilizar esos bonitos caballos para torear. No me hace ninguna gracia que hagan sufrir a un toro y además que los caballos se lleven una cornada.
For the bull fights, are they only using stallions for the power in the fight, or geldings and mares as well? Magnificent horses, those Lusitano's, by the way ^^
no, they're showing you how pure and beauty are their horses, how they teach them the best moves for the competitions, and how they got their beautiful horses ^^ sorry for my bad english, I'm spanish xDD
Bullfighting in general is really bad, but here they show bullbaiting, which doesn't end with the animal dead. It's more of a game, developed from the fact that they herd bulls and cows with the horses.
Desde Uruguay: que hermoso, hasta las lágrimas no pare.............. que emoción esos animales....... un sueño . tan solo un sueño para mi. Felicitaciones!!!
Actually, to my knowledge, they do it because it's easier in maintenance. Mares and foals are usually turned out most of the time on huge plots of land. Most stud farms have a great amount of mares and only up to 20 stallions. Taking care of all the mares is a lot of work, by shaving their mane and tails, they'll always look neat if a buyer comes to see and they just pluck a mare and foal out of a paddock. Horses do need their tails, and at least with shaving everything will grow back in time.
it's called roaching. and sometimes people have to do it because their mane can get really matted and tangled, but they practically did it to all of their horses so i have no idea why they did so
Ive just graduated from an equestrian college here in VA and if I was fluent in Spanish, I would apply to work there. No American horse compares to the horses in other country's.
