Great vase ! It’s so nice to see the whole process of construction. I’ve trying to make these vases here in Brazil. I still have one dout: after we finish to set up the clay on rope, for how long we have to wait to take the rope out? Of course depends on the clay, whethear, etc, but if you could tell me your process whould help me a lot, cheers !
I taped them making the pots, but I don't make pots myself. I do believe the rope stayed in the pots for at least a day. The clay appeared to be cold to touch, but not wet when he removed the rope.
I was there only for an hour or so. The outside form was made by the template, The inside was scraped down to smooth it out. They would glaze it on the inside and on the top 4 inches or so of the piece. They were originally used to transport olive oil. The glazing was used to help prevent rats from getting in the pots. They would hit the rim and the glaze would make them slip down. The saddest thing is that the Pottery was washed away in a major flood and I don't believe they rebuilt it. I believe it is gone.
