"La Strasbourgeoise" is a song written in 1870/1 after the Franco-Prussian war which led to the loss of the Alsace-Lorraine territory of France to the Newly-established German Empire
The armistice to the 1870 Franco-Prussian War established the annexation of Alsace and Lorraine;
This song refers to the Alsatian City of Strasbourg, which knew a 43 days siege under German bombardments between August and September 1870, and which was therefore annexed at the end of the war. It also reflects the strong feeling of attachement to France and of enmity for the Germans from the occupied populations
It was not until 1918, at the end of the first world war, that the city became French again.
