Ensuring labour don't coast by simply for not being the Tories is why it's important that the Tories get utterly obliterated and replaced as main opposition party by the Lib Dems. The Lib Dem manifesto is actually promising impressive shit and is arguably more left wing than Labour's right now.

Keep in mind that labor is also going to be the likely winner, whereas lib dems are an unlikely winner. This means that labor can’t promise a bunch of stupid shit they actually can’t do or things that sounds good on paper but would have an adverse effect on the economy if implemented. This is why a lot of things they promise is so tame. You can’t just wave your hand and implement changes. You can’t just promise more doctors when there are barely any incentives for doctors to actually pursue a career in the UK, you can’t implement wealth tax when it’ll just lead to more tax evasion.

To be a little cynical, the Lib Dem’s don’t have to make a manifesto that works. They aren’t going to win the election so can promise bigger things easier. Even a manifesto that seems well costed can lean to be on the more generous side than since you won’t be accountable for delivering what you say. Labour should have been more ambitious though. By all data they look to be on track to win by a silly big majority and will basically be able to pass whatever they want.
@Clickificationist

The Lib Dems could realistically be the opposition, all it takes is tactical voting. The tories are ridiculously close to falling over the edge into 3rd or 4th place due to the razor thin margins of their projected seats won

I liked the Lib Dem and Green Manifestos the best. The Greens are ambitious as Hell (like a 2030 net zero target and investing in green energy in Africa) and I can respect that, but there are just too many obviously impossible things in there that make it obviously clear they are a party obviously unprepared for any amount of power, whereas the Lib Dems strike a good balance between ambitious and realistic. Is stopping new flats from being sold as leaseholds a good thing?
@davidwright7193
@davidwright7193 Месяц назад
Yes. There is a common hold form of ownership that was specifically created during the 1997-2010 government to replace leasehold to solve the problems of freehold wrt flats and gives flat owners greater rights as to how the duties of block management and maintenance are dealt with compared to being subject to feudal duties to the freehold owner under a lease.

Yes. It may shock you but a high proportion of leaseholds are sold without the buyer understanding what that means....

Unfortunately that’s bad for them, as they benefit from being “the other party” whenever the Tories fuck up. And it’s the tories, so they do that at least once per generation 😂 Basically Labour benefits from fptp like the tories, so they’re not likely to remove it, especially as the tories are historically weak and they can speculate to get a 10/15+ mandate (by winning the elections for the next decade or so).

I'm a Murrkin. Most of what I know about contemporary British politics (and some of what I know about contemporary Murrkin politics and other things), I know from your fine channel. I was wondering how the Conservatives had managed to stay in charge of the UK for 14 years. Then I saw this video and it became slightly clearer. Punishing corporate execs for literally dumping **** into your water is definitely better than deporting refugees to Rwanda. But having a better way is not much good if you put people to sleep trying to explain your better way to them. Maybe the Lib Dems will pressure Labour into sexy-ing up their presentation a bit? Clearly, for now, "We're not the Tories!" is a winning slogan, but once you've got power, you've got to keep it, and voters tend to very quickly forgot how horrible the last guys were.

Wasn't the smoking thing announced by the other lot? Looks like more work for our hard pressed dealers. Like the new houses thing .... but as with the £6.6bn announced towards energy efficiency, to what standard is it intended to raise how many domiciles? Will the new stuff be built to full Passive House standards (or better ... it's possible)? OK. Unreservedly like the railways thing. The privatised companies have had WAY more public money than old BR ever got. Hope that is done with some sympathy for Scot Rail and TfW, or there'll be fireworks. Something specific regarding intentions for expanding OHLE (electrification) and increasing freight by rail would be nice .... but I'm a rail nerd. Nowt much in democratic overhauls? Odd omission.

After 14 tough years -especially for the poorest -and this is what Labour has to offer....a continuation of 'One Nation' Conservativism. There will no doubt be more cuts (under a new fancy name), protecting the wealthest whilst saying 'we are having to make tough decisions because of the mess we were left with' - just like Cameron and Osborne did. Actually, the tougher decisions would be to be bolder and braver and introduce a wealth tax instead of constantly cutting services.
