Labour party’s Keir Starmer became the new UK Prime Minister after the Conservatives faced a historic defeat in the 2024 elections. Starmer met King Charles III at the Buckingham Palace on July 5 and was invited to form a government. UK’s Labour party won 410 of the 650 seats in an astonishing reversal of fortunes from 2019, when it suffered its worst performance since 1935. The Conservatives have lost a string of senior MPs, losing the seats of all the prime ministers since 2010, apart from Rishi Sunak, as per the BBC. Reform UK and the Greens also saw historic performances, with each party winning more seats than ever before, with four each. The Reform UK party’s Nigel Farage won the Westminster seat on his eighth attempt.
