I want a boring but competent prime minister. We've had funny, entertaining ones and look where we are because of it.

My son has autism and did very well in mainstream school. There are many schools out there that educate children with special needs. My son was never offered a place in a private school but he's much more capable now than he would be without the fantastic teachers at his high school. They did their utmost for him, and I'm very proud of them.

Why is it a standard interviewing technique now to interrupt someone every few words, to try to goad the interviewee into reacting rather than allowing them the space to formulate a proper answer to the questions people have been asking? It puts the journalists' agendas above the questions actually being submitted, and comes across as arrogant and pedantic. It's maddening for anyone who is actually interested to hear the responses. The lower journalism stoops, the lower politicians have to stoop to meet it, and that's bad for all of us.

Why is no one questioning whether the private schools can, or will, pass all of the 20% VAT on to parents? If this would, as some are claiming, halve the number of students in private schools, then the schools will have to reduce their fees.

"You can't have a third of a maths teacher!" What a silly thing to say. Obviously that isn't what Starmer meant. Clearly, we do need more maths teachers!

Props to Starmer for coming onto a show like this. Shows he has nothing to hide and is happy to defend his policies

Nick Ferrari really needs to shut up, listen and get some flipping respect.

For a long established senior lawyer, I remain in long-term shock about how poor an advocate he is. I know that the law is not about rhetoric flourishes like Rumpole. But a simple structured answer that lays it out at the beginning, reinforces the answer with facts and reasons and finally recaps what you have just said is the golden template. But Starmer is formulaic and misses what people are actually asking or interested in. He mixes up folksy side stories for empathetic insight. He is not young and he's not going to either learn on the job or grow into it. There isn't time and we appear in the middle of multi-spectrum challenges and a perma-crisis. It is sad to see the West, especially the UK and the USA faced with a talent drought in public services.

Nick Ferrari is an awesome host. He is more bothered about creating out of context 15-second "gotcha" clips for TikTok and Twitter, rather than having an useful, informative segment of this show

This should be Kier Starmer answering listener's questions. Not Tory Ferrari trying to give his spin on both questions and answers to twist them to his Tory perspective. If Ferrari could shut the F up we could have had so many more questions.

I don't understand the 2 child benefit cap. The legislation was amended to protect chileren already born, meaning anybody who chose to have a 3rd or 4th child after that knew there would be no child benefit. They haven't had anything taken away from them?

Parents who have the income to be able to send their kids to private schools (giving their kids a demonstrable advantage in early life above state school educated kids) COMPLAINING that they will need to pay VAT! The council tax needs a complete overhaul...I pay 170 Month for a poky 2 bedroom,a flat is roughly 150, yet a 5 bedroom luxury home up the road is only about 200 or so,how can that remotely be right?

How many children with disabilities attend state schools because they can't get to or on a scheme or because their family situation inhibits it? Why should people who on the whole can afford private education get a tax break?

Starmer comes across as slippery and dishonest and his spending commitments are lower than those of the austerity govt led by David Cameron. Couple that with his party's cosying up to private healthcare and it does not bode well for the next five years. The most worrying prospect is that, once people see that living standards may fall further under Labour, and the Tories have disgraced themselves by destroying the economy, that the hard right will start to look more appealing to a large number of disillusioned people desperate to see some investment.

Did anyone ask him if all the asylum seekers in hotels and holding centres are going to get immunity under a Labour Gov't? I think they will get uncomfortable with this subject before the election! They will do this before they stop small boat crossings by picking them up directly on ferries! 🤔

Nick is rude af, Kier is being asked a question and because it's not a yes or no answer, he just constantly interrupts him and talks over him like he doesn't care about his opinion after all. so rude. if i had a guy talking to me liek that i'd say look, if you're not going to listen im just going alright. You asked me something, let me answer, i let you speak, let me speak. Nick wants the answer to the question ''while you're in office, however long that may be, are you going to raise taxes''.... did the tories get asked that? in 2010? no they didn't... and look what they did. You can't know how things are going to go until you start changing stuff. If in 2 years....4 years it's decided ok, this bit is ok now so we CAN afford to raise council tax a little bit because the economy is better in this area and it won't affect people because their energy bills have drastically come down, so they won't notice, then that's understandable, but nick is just trying to make kier sound like ''Raising taxes yes or no'' it's not that simple, nick. Give him a chance to show what he can do first, he's already stated he ISNT going to raise taxes as things are at the moment and has NO plans to. But the tories stick to their plans don't they... eh? I think it's refreshing that we have a politician that is saying there are things that initially they can't fund. Would rather know now and vote knowing that than vote for a bunch of policies that will never come to fruition. A manifesto is only what they plan to do straight away, not what they can implement in time once the economy is more stable

As a teacher, I can tell you that more mental health support for children sends a dagger into my heart. Kids resonating on their feelings is part of the problem. They all think because of the mental health support in schools that any emotion other that happiness is a crisis. Kids need to be resilient and 'get on with it'.

Tax the private schools but reimburse poorer parents via means testing. If we can do it for free school meals and the pupil premium why not private education.

The 20% vat on private schools is a policy for the money not the few. Yes, there are a lot of people in private schools but nothing compared to the state comprehensive. For too long, the Tories have consistently underfunded public education in favour of private Kier is 100% right You shouldn't be able to get a better standard of education just because you have money.

He says none of his plans require tax rises, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't raise for them for plans he hasn't shared with us, or that he wouldn't raise them out of spite to destroy the middle class further. His concept of the 'working man' is ideological, not rational.

He's going to re-evaluate council tax bandings to put up council tax and claim it's up to local councils.

He talks about the nhs like the nhs is responsible for our health. Why doesnt he talk about diet or food companies who put junk in the food we buy?

Nick the Tory member he was always going to be biased

Our grandson, with a starement of needs and with autism, recently received his headteachers award year 10 at prize giving and is on track for decent GCSEs, having received fantastic care and consideration. Our grand daughter has been at a private school for children with autism for her last 2 years of education. She has been treated abyssally and excluded for 6 weeks for an issue down to the schools inadequacy and lack of documentation for a work placement which was their responsibility even had she not have been autistic. And that was in last 3 months of her school career. It is a BUISNESS owned by a very wealthy entrepreneur. The care he had in a state school, not in a wealthy part of the notth, has been exemplary. Don't insult the hard working committed teachers, both in the primary and secondary sector. As an exteacher with experience of these children, I know how hard they work with fantastic results, without negatively affecting other children asversely.

How rude is Nick, manners maketh the man! Respect goes a long way, shame he hasn't got any, he could have let the guy talk for gods sake, whether you're more Tory or not...

The Tory client journalist nick Ferrari is a horror, knew there was reason I don’t listen to him. All of his disingenuous interruptions and sad attempts at gotcha moments (that all fell flat) did nothing to raise the level of the interview. Kier has to be commended on appearing with such a rabid Tory spokesman.

No one is talking about the fact that private schools and state schools have different exam boards. The IFS predict that 134,000 private school students will be forced into state schools in the 5 year period following the implementation of the 20% VAT. What if you’re a private school student about to enter year 11 and sit your GCSE’s or even about going into your final year of A levels. All of a sudden you’re now at a school that teaches a completely different syllabus a year before your final exams. so what happens then, is the plan to hold back all of those students multiple years so they can catch up and place an even bigger burden on the state? It’s not the students fault that they went to private school.
