Can you do a video about what Tories manifesto was at the last election and what they accomplished or failed at?

JE Hoyes my main point of contention with the manifesto is that it hinges on Labour being able to keep their plans in check by 2030. Of course none of the things they’re promising in the manifesto can happen in a day but it seems somewhat naive of them to assume that they’ll stay as the majority for a long enough time to ensure all of these points are brought to action. Then again, that statement can be made about all party manifestos.

@RhysWilliamDoyle 4 года назад
@Finn I understand the concern here, but statistically the Conservatives borrow more money per year in power then Labour, therefore increasing the countries debt. All the debt accrued just so they can offer tax breaks whilst gutting the services. Of course Labour's plan seems like it'll spend more, they plan to charge the rich's tax havens and oil companies to help cover the costs. Also an economy is based on how much people spend, now I don't know about you, but I buy less these days. Our economy is failing under the Conservatives already. At least with Labour we may see positives as well, instead of watching the NHS fall apart and the cost of bread slowly crawl up to the minimum per hour wage.

I downvoted because in the energy section, it didn’t mention labour’s plan to build nuclear power stations. They included nuclear plans when talking about other parties energy plans and it was very divisive but why not include it here? A simple oversight, maybe. Summarising a 100 page document in 10 minuets will inevitably leave information out, maybe. TLDR News showing their bias by avoiding controversial topics in their preferred political party’s plan, maybe. Raising taxes for the rich is all well and good if you assume the UK is an economic bubble. How are the wealthy making you poor? Most are wealthy as they create jobs and drive innovation and without them we’ll have far less. @shizzleminizzle why does it matter if I pay £100 in taxes to retrofit my home if I save £400 a year? Similarly, when the NHS was established, people might've lost money in taxes, but not having to pay for healthcare privately ultimately saves them money. Sidenote: the last Labour manifesto was fully costed. And yet the Tories still talked about how they were shaking a magic money tree, how they weren't able to pay for it, how it would cost massive amounts in taxes to the poorest people in the economy. The Tories are not the party of economic good sense and caution, they're the party of the aesthetic of economic good sense.
@MarkusAldawn
@MarkusAldawn 4 года назад
@shizzleminizzle good for you. If we have more disposable income and better public services as a result of higher taxation, I don't see why we should care if it's the Government getting the money as opposed to six different businesses, so long as we're getting that housing, food, and access to education. You're entire point boils down to "before I spend a penny of my salary, I want to have a big number," which is really short sighted economics, but go off I guess.
@MarkusAldawn
@MarkusAldawn 4 года назад
@shizzleminizzle If you'd earn £12000 without tax, that only really means you earn ~£10000 with the current system. I've been arguing the principle, but it looks like you actually think it'll go up to 50%, which it won't. So say the Government moves its rate from 15% to say 20%. It won't, most of the rise will be on people who decidedly don't work at Tescos, but let's pretend. You lose ~£600. If they can save you £400 with retrofitting homes to be more energy efficient, and reduce your travel costs by half (the average commuter in England spends thousands on train fares a year), and provide you with cheap, affordable housing (private renting will need to become more competitive to survive against council housing, lowering everybody's costs), and empower unions to allow workers to make the money they deserve, and recognise a living wage as essential, then you've gone from effectively getting ~£2000 of actually disposable income a year to a much, much higher amount. Again: if your only economic measure is how much money you physically have in your bank account *only after the Government taxes it,* then yeah, go ahead, Labour's not for you. If you actually care about your standard of life, and even if you only care about the cash you can actually decide how to spend (deciding not to pay rent is, for most people, not a choice they can even consider), then this manifesto is for you. This isn't 1970s Labour. This is 1945 Labour- the Welfare state, and rolling back the disastrous mistakes of Thatcher, and then Austerity. You'd probably agree that the NHS is good. This is the extension of that principle. If people need healthcare to survive, and the Government provides it, why should they not do that for other things they need? Like housing, and food, and education? If you think that's Marxism, then I urge you to consider becoming one.

The key important aspect here is the fact that the environment was the first section, and Brexit the last: We have years to save the planet, Brexit is in reality a small issue, and Boris can’t argue that Brexit is the problem with climate change, as that is simply untrue. Corbyn has outlined a plan that includes borrowing money yes, but an investment in green energy is an investment in saving the only place that we know life to exist in the universe. I for one, as a young person from a working class family, wouldn’t even care if I was taxed more if I knew that the money was going to environment saving projects.

Countries like Scandinavian countries have higher taxation to properly fund public services. It's not rocket science. I have no problem with high earners paying more tax. Some of the hardest workers in the UK are low paid and many do jobs others would hate. So many people in work get tax credits because of their low incomes. Surely their employers should pay them a decent wage so the government can collect more tax instead of paying tax credits? Let's raise standards for everyone instead of the race to the bottom approach of the Tories.

I came around 2:06 Finally, Labour has some balls at least in the manifesto. The cheap public transportation plan as well as nationalising energy production are both impossible for western nations to not implement in near future, if we wish to not cause chainreaction in climatechange. Unless we wish to build a future where ordinary workers can't afford heating and transport, as private sector can and will ask a ten-fold price for the required changes in infrastructure. All the now expired patents our infrastructure is based on will be useless, and current patent laws and the high need of developement to reach carbon neutral transportation and electricity nationwide will leave the competition razor thin. Citizens of all nations need to choose if the entity controlling that monopoly is a corporation or few who wish to maximise their profits, or the state. And only one of those has a mechanism forcing them to consider your well-being.
