I always remember when studying history at university in the early eighties how one of my lecturers had been a German schoolboy living in the same town as Hitler (may his name be erased) when he came to power in the thirties. He described how the school teaching changed very quickly indeed to Nazi ideology. Because young minds are the future and are open to whatever nonsense their teachers may want to pour in. Truly concerning what is happening. I believe the Holocaust is already no longer taught about in the British curriculum because of antisemitic Muslim sensitivities, which is completely outrageous.

The British Empire did get some things wrong, but much of that turns it's eyes from the stone cold fact that in the days wrongness happened the world was a very different place. Mores change over time. Ideas, ethics, ideologies: these things are never truly permanent and they morph over time. And it is a grave error to judge the past from modern perspectives. Another point worthy of note is that the Empire, warts and all, got far more right than it ever got wrong. We shoul not waste time apologising for the sins of our fathers because our fathers deserve better. Those who don't like what this nation did over time should leave. They will NOT be missed.

I hope it back fires on them, in the sense that people, parents in particular, will question and actually do their own research. The important voices like yours speaking up against this attack on our history, may well go some way to waking people up to do so.

The history I was taught in the 1970's was fairly dry and value free. We were just being given an inventory of events that had taken place as a background to put things in their context. Nobody would have been suggesting that the British Empire was a good or bad thing. We were just being taught what happened and when as a necessary foundation for those who wanted to go on to study it at university where they could take a more analytical approach to the subject.

British history is incredibly complex. Try understanding all of it from 800AD and that is more than a lives work. It cant be done. Regarding the slave trade, a lot of people who are decendants of the slave trade now earn more than people live in their country of origin. So how would you calculate reparations if technically people ended up better off (despite historical injustice). It is the "what did the Romans ever do for us argument".

When will we get reparations from the Italians because of the slaves they took. Or the Barbery pirates they took loads of slaves. They even took whole villages to sell into slavery they were from North Africa i believe . So let's see them pay us then we can talk about it. But because we spent so much money and lost many brave sailors STOPPING THE SLAVE TRADE I PERSONALLY THINK WE HAVE ALREADY PAID OUR SHARE AND MORE. REMEMBER WE ONLY JUST FINISHED PAYING FOR STOPPING THE SLAVE TRADE.
