@Chickennugget There's nothing wrong with owning pugs. They deserve love too. But I think that we need to acknowledge this fact and agree that we should keep them from breeding so that there aren't more pugs who have to suffer with health issues just because "Aw they're so cute!".

Hooveswrinkles Fivelittletwinkles no all of them have a bad face, you will never see a pug or French bulldog looking normal anymore. You can try and make their life better by being a good dog owner, like feeding raw meat and giving them a healthy lifestyle with muscle training and lots of excersize. But they shouldn't be bred.

French bulldogs are even worse, they can’t even reproduce on their own without human intervention. If we stopped assisting them through ivf they would be extinct as soon as the current generation of frenchies dies out. There’s nothing wrong with owning a frenchie or pug, they need love too and they’re definitely cute. But we still can’t deny that they’re ticking time bombs, humans have bred them to the point that they’re brachiocephalic and riddled with dozens of health issues. Plus I just can’t fathom why anyone would spend thousands of dollars for a “designer” test tube dog like a frenchie when there are millions of dogs in shelters that you could adopt for next to nothing. Why not give them a second chance at life instead of supporting an industry as sick as selective dog breeding. People always try to justify it by saying “well I only buy from responsible breeders” and sure, that’s better than some backyard puppy mill situation, but that doesn’t make it acceptable. It’s amazing the kind of selfishness and cruelty people will turn a blind eye to when it’s convenient for them.

nematoad if you need a working dog (police work, service dog, herding, etc) then that’s where breeding is important and comes into play. For example, a mutt that’s cross bred beagle and golden retriever that someone might find in a shelter wouldn’t be very effective in police work because of breed traits. If you’re just looking for a family pet then breed/breeding doesn’t matter too much. For working dogs they need to be a high quality and well bred breed that has a good health history and long life expectancy because they are so expensive to breed and train.

rach ritch - I agree, but would add that when a dog is added to a family in which someone has severe allergies, then breeding is also important. Even a little of a non-hypoallergenic breed mixed in could make it impossible to keep a dog, and giving one up after the family has fallen in love with it is heartbreaking!

With rescues you never know what kind of traumas they‘ve been trough, you don‘t know if they might lash out on your dogs or you simply want your dog to have a personality that fits to you and your way of living. This is just like hairless cats are great for people who want a cat, but can't have one due to allergies. Get a hairless cat then. Poodle breeds are another breed great for people with allergies. And I also went to adopt a dog but couldn't as I don't have a fence. And I go walking with my dogs about 4 times a day as well as letting them out to run around with me watching them. I go on night walks as well with a flashlight.

David Gonzalez I do agree that having large dogs inside for large periods of time isn’t good and they need to release it and simple walks aren’t enough. As long as people without fenced yards take their dogs to public spaces that allow them to release the energy, they should also be considered. My dog goes to dog parks at least 5 days out the week for an hour or so and is walked on the other days. If weather doesn’t permit, she goes to daycare to wrestle with other dogs to release her energy. I do agree that if you’re not up to the responsibility of exercising your dog properly, you shouldn’t own one but I do think there’s lots of people out there just like me who go out the way to make sure their fur babies are treated amazing

Your dog may be fine, but she could very possibly carry genes that would be detrimental to the next generation of pups (if bred) . I think the point is , designer dogs are a danger due to the fact that their breeding pool is small and it gives them a chance to pass on mutated Gene's and dangerous traits. Love how the goldendoodles look tho. Not gonna bash the people who DO have them. There just needs to be more awareness , and less people out here buying designer dogs 🤷‍♀️

Having the market regulated, although not completely eliminating, mitigates this. Not to mention, having a high cost of entry means not everybody can get a dog. It means only the people who are financially able, and can afford to take care of the dog, can get one. @@nematoaddd are you telling this person they shouldn't have bought their daughter 2 hypoallergenic dogs because she has allergies and it doesn't matter if she's a dog lover without allergies cause it's not always about her? Cause it kind of is... people can preach "adopt, don't shop" forever but if you can't adopt but you'd love to have a dog of your own, what's really wrong with that? The main issue that I think is missed, is the people who put dogs up for adoption for reasons that are truly unfair to the dog. And, yes, people will adopt from rescues and shelters and send the dog right back sometimes because the dog "barks too much" or they're "too busy" for their new pet. I feel like the people who choose to buy from breeders or don't have much choice (as needing something that doesn't shed so much or for a service animal), get a lot of flack. Most of the time, people who buy from breeders are doing so because they REALLY want that dog. And when you already want that dog, you're more prepared to take on the raising of that dog and what comes your way. Then the silly excuses people use to rehome or send the dog to a shelter, fall to the side and that's when your pet becomes a member of your family. In cases like pet shopping (or adopting, it's interchangeable to me since you pay money no matter what), everyone involved-- human and animal-- matters for the success of the companionship.

In theory that can happen I guess, but not how it typically goes. A responsible breeder does genetic health testing to make sure their dog is of breeding quality no matter what they are breeding it to. My labradoodle had the worst worst anxiety so bad she died of cardiac arrest due to severe panic attacks...broke my heart. I went to the pound and found the best dog ever...

I got lucky! Met both the parents, have all the paperwork from hereditary tests…and have the calmest, sweetest dog of the litter. She is the smartest dog I’ve ever owned and super cute! Love my Labradoodle. It’s a shame there are so many “breeders” ripping people off.

There is just no substitute for a good old fashioned mutt. All the dogs we've had who have been the smartest, most fun, the healthiest and most problem-free have been - good old fashioned MUTTS! :-)

Based on experience from working with dogs, i’d say goldendoodles are among my least favorite dog breed. They are high energy and stubborn. Most of the ones i’ve encountered lack manners and i attribute this to owners not realizing this dog breed needs training as well as needing to be taken out and burn energy like other energetic dog breeds.

Goldendoodles are the most overrated doodle, and they’re starting to infuriate me at this point. I also hate how some doodle owners trash talk Poodles even though their dog is part Poodle.

Breeders should be arrested, they have no care for the dog’s health just if it looks cute you’re breeding dogs with so many flaws hurting the poor dog the moment it’s born

You have breeders confused with puppy mills. Reputable breeders keep up with health of parents and puppies..

There are good breeders out there just like there are horrible, cruel ones out there. That’s why it is so important to do your research and make sure you are buying from a responsible breeder if that’s the route you choose.
