We got a puppy yellow lab for My Son with Down Syndrome at age 3. It not only helped him but made parenting so much easier. Zeek lived till almost 14 and i miss that dog every day
My children grew up with a yellow lab and we had him for 16 years. Labs truly are one of the most gentle and insightful of breeds. They love everyone, their loyalty knows no bounds and they sense when someone is ill or disabled.
I get it. Our black lab knew when our youngest was about to have a seizure. After Jack passed we rescued a yellow lab who we named Jill. She was your typical dumb blonde but full of love. We lost her after 14-1/2yrs. I want to get another lab & soon will. I hope your son is happy & healthy. Our youngest is now 26 but will always have the mind of a child. She’s full of love & we’re blessed to have her.
Actually, I can assure you that dogs certainly have MORE humanity than humanity itself - it's a no brainer, and after 60 years on this earth, the easiest conclusion to reach.
A lady asked me about my Labrador Assistance Dog, Brayden, as one of her three daughters, who were with her, had severe Autism. Over the next couple of minutes Brayden had worked out which girl it was and was snuggled up to her. Animals certainly have a real sense of a person's needs.
God appears most times to be cruel. But here and in similar instances , He always gives a glimpse of kindness . Why So we don’t know. But for certain the seeming lack of compassion expressed so often by him has a definite goal for our own good.
@daleferber2096: My Labrador is not a therapist. He has been with me since he was 7 years old, had a lot of unpleasant experiences and he made me his therapist. What makes me happy.
Well then you have the exception. The lab in this video , that is classic Lab Therapy dog action The scene when they come home after the miscarriage and Marley comes over and comforts Jen , classic lab therapy dog All my Labs have been like that @@gerritgerritsen9894
I have a younger sister with DS, and she’s now 54. Whenever I have introduced new dogs into our family, the dogs just “KNOW” my sister is exceptional! They even listen to her & respond so appropriately to whatever mood or situation without even being told how to. Truly remarkable.
My cousin had a child with downs syndrome.she told me of all her children he was the sweetest and she would have him as long as he lived She truly felt he was a gift from God..
My son has Down Syndrome; he's a great kid with a loving heart and an easy smile. People with DS do not adjust to change easily and DO need their space, at times. But, if given the opportunity to connect with you on their terms, the results are magical!!!
This was not justfieable to the darling little boy and the dog. The actual video was very heart touching. These pictures don't do justice . I have seen the actual video and brings tears to your eyes.
I love all dogs, but labs are beyond intelligent and wise. I had a black lab, Bert, who was a wild man, but after my dad was dx'd with terminal cancer, he was so gentle with him. My dad feared our usually out of control lab and was nervous about him but Bert walked slowly up to him and laid his head on my dad's leg and looked at him. The message in his soft eyes said, "Don't worry. I won't hurt you. I understand." He was still his crazy boisterous self with us, but whenever my dad was there, he turned into the gentlest of lambs. Miss you dad ❤ and you too Bert ❤ 😢😢
Is the father of a child with down syndrome? I totally appreciate this. My son has grown up with multiple German shepherds and all have known that he was different. It was very gentle with him versus being able to rough house with my typically developed daughter. Thanks for sharing this video!
Life as a down syndrome is a very very lonely life. I have a neighbour with such a child. We knew about it as l accompany the expectant mother for each trimester test. I told her never to abort that boy. She listened. Even my AOG church pastor's wife doesn't want him. I have to respect the church. Today he is 13 & l have helped the family to train the DS kid to respect privacy & look after his personal cleanliness. He is much loved by the siblings, being the youngest of the 3 boys. I pray & hope he will learn to take buses on his own. Time being l take him out regularly as l wants him to be familiar to his surroundings. Recently he has a kitten as his pet. Yes, your dog, the Labrador can develop a very close relationship with him. He needs company like any normal person. Thank you for loaning him the joy & happiness of being around his friendly dog. Hope his parents will teach him independence. TQ.
I always think dogs are angels and have souls of those who have already passed ! Be kind to them and they will repay you with unconditional love 100 times over 👍🏼❤
Yes, they are MESSENGERS, angels of God who aid us with love , loyalty and trust. The animal kingdom never sinned against God but unfortunately they are caught between a rock and a hard place due to Man doing so. They have souls and every last one is destined for Heaven - unlike Mankind.
My son died in a hurricane My friend gave me a Chihuahua to comfort me that she rescued in a shelter. He was and is a total delight and comfort.i thank God and my friend for this precious gift.Such blessings
This article beautifully captures the tender interaction between a Labrador and a boy with Down Syndrome, showcasing the profound empathy animals can display. The emotional depth and genuine moments shared between the two are heartwarming and serve as a poignant reminder of the unconditional love pets provide. It's a touching read that truly moves the heart.
Animals know when they need to protect people especially children. I've had many dogs of different breeds but they all know who needs their protections.
We had a lab that came into our lives bounding up the street with only a choke collar on. After trying to find his owner, because this dog was special in every way, we could not. There wasn't chipping in those days, but we took him to the vet and got his shots, only because he refused to leave, and he would wait for my sons every day at the bus stop and walk them home, then wait in the front yard to take them to the bus the next morning. Of course it just took a couple days and we put him in our huge back yard for a day or two. Then he moved in the house and never left. He was sent for a reason, my oldest son was having so many problems at school with bullies, he had Aspergers, but in the early 80's you never heard much about it. Only recently, now that my son is 49, did I find out what he went through and how Nick saved his life because he had Nick who was always waiting for him when he got off the bus, walked home with him, up to his bedroom, where he would spend hours talking to him and crying in his fur. He said he knew Nick understood every word, and had it not been for his best friend, he may have ended his life, or tried to. That was the first I heard about it, I always knew Nick was very special, but I had no idea about this incident until I was told by my son recently.
I have a 2 yr old golden retriever. He's as hyper as can be, but he's impossible to resist. My wife and I have spoiled him rotten. He definitely knows he's loved.
Our daughter had a yellow lab for her service dog. He was just perfect for her. We miss them both so much now. I thank Canine Companions for Independence! I’m so glad that both the dog’s human and the boy’s mother were there to witness the interactions!
Our youngest suffered a TBI when she was 11months old & our black lab knew when she was gonna have a seizure & would bark at us letting us know something wasn’t right. BEST DOG EVER. Our youngest is now 26 & although she’s more like an 8yr old & hasn’t had a seizure in 13yrs I’d still like to own another lab. I miss Jack so much & im thrilled that he loved us back.
I believe our pets especially the ones we cuddle with, make the quality of our lives more enjoyable. We should give them everything we can to ensure their time with us is happy and loving .
Yellow lab retriever is such an amazing dog. When my 2 sons were growing up we had a lab that absolutely watched over them like they were her puppies. One of the most beautiful things I have ever witnessed.
Our little mutt saved my 2 year old sister from being mauled by a neighbor's mistreated German Shepherd. Daisy was nearly torn in half by that dog, but our vet managed to save her and give us 3 more years with her.
My Amstaff is a certified therapy dog, and we work with special needs children. Dogs seem to have an intuitive sense of the child's needs and behave accordingly. It's really a joy to watch her interact with the kids. It is often the high point of their day.
Dogs can read the human mind…. They have observed us from their perspective with their good senses for over 30.000 years!! If only we took some more time to understand THEM, how much would there not be we can learn about OURSELVES!!!!
This is a great story. But know it is not typical of kids with Down Syndrome. My daughter has Down's and loves our animals, but for the most part she couldn't careless. She also is not shy of other kids. If she see's other kids she wants to go straight to them and interact. Sometimes they react in an odd way but for the most part they welcome her to play. Like most typical people people with Down's all have different personalities and traits. They should not all be treated the same.
Used to bring my big protective dobie to a blind deaf school and he just knew to be gentile. The students had fun touching his teeth and getting close to him while he just would sit/lay for them. For many of them it was the first time they got close to a big dog.
I’ve been with a group for twenty years that brings therapy dogs into seniors homes, the hospital, hospice…..for monthly visits. We have different breeds, but they all bring joy and compassion every time. Dogs can do what people cannot. The value can’t be quantified.
Wow it shows animals have more kindness and thoughts for humans than a human being it moved me to tears knowing I have friends of 45 years and 14 years who knowingly tried to damage my self and my brain it's so moving to see animals truly have the heart for another human than a human it's so good and it's so sad on the other hand to know some one all your life to try and get you to loose your mind
I'll never forget how our family dog always approached a girl with Cystic Fibrosis (who had many close calls as a child), & would kiss her leg (rather than jump up!) so tenderly!!- It's amazing how they just "Know"!... There was nothing to show that she was so fragile & ill since birth, but this dog Always doted on her more carefully than with all the other children!!-💗🙂
I ran across a Lab walking home from work yesterday, beautiful dog. His owner said not to worry, he wasn't wrong. All the dog wanted was to be petted. I was sorry to eventually keep going home.
We had a lab mix who had been abused. And she never forgot that and she was very protective. We had moments where she would become aggressive but just call her name n she was right by your side instantly.
Herman is a lovely little boy. I wish Herman peace, lots of love ❤️, keeping his dog near him, all children need love, friends, and some suitable play time.
