Hello. I hope you enjoy this calm relaxing walking video.
This morning we are up with the lark and walking around the beautiful streets and lanes of Lacock village in Wiltshire.
The sun is rising and we start our walk on the footpath from Reybridge to Lacock. We then journey down a single-track lane towards the centre of the village. Before we arrive in the village we will pass Lacock’s flowing ford. It is quiet today but during the summer you will see children dipping their toes in the water or playing Poohsticks on the bridge.
Lacock is well known for its abbey and cloisters as well as a museum dedicated to William Fox Talbot, one of the fathers of modern photography. Lacock is mentioned in the Domesday Book and Lacock Abbey was founded in the early 13th century. Many of the houses in the village are from the 18th century or earlier.
The village has been used as a filming location for TV shows and movies such as: Pride and Prejudice, Cranford, Downton Abbey, Harry Potter, Fantastic Beasts, Beauty and the Beast and The Other Boleyn Girl.
As we walk around it is early and very quiet. During our walk we pass some friendly dog walkers and a runner out catching the fresh morning air. See if you can spot the cat on the lane towards the end of the video.
As well as the flowing ford we can hear lots of waking birds calling out in appreciation of the morning sunrise. Lacock doesn’t have much passing traffic but we do see and hear the occasional car. There is a busier A-road close-by that we can sometimes hear.
We are particular fortunate this morning to have such a lovely sky and light that bounces off the lovely tones of the ancient brickwork on the buildings. If you have never been to Lacock I hope this video helps you feel a little closer to it. Please sit back, relax and enjoy the rest of this video.

I can relate to you. Those walls owned with history of the past, rich in culture makes me to be there too at all time exploring the beauty hidden in the villages. I can even imagine the years of mid 1800s where those roads were flooded with people and peaceful scenery of how good and better those days were.

Ahhhhh. This is how to do a video walk. NO foolish conversation; NO annoying, pounding music. Some sounds of nature. NO mad rushing. Very good "panorama" scenes (make you feel you are doing the walk It's exactly what you do when visiting a new place; you want to take it all in. THANK YOU for sharing. The only thing I would add would be VERY SHORT written descriptions (must be easy to read). Keep these village walks coming. Many of us will never get the chance to visit the English countryside; I am sure I won't. Once again, thank you for sharing.

I live just 12 miles from Lacock and it's good to watch these videos because sometimes you can forget what beauty we have right on out doorstep. Remember , if ever you visit the UK it's not all about London and the big cities. “The old England still exists”…..what a beautiful thought! It stirs my imagination to pass by these old houses and barns and wonder about the llives people lived here. I would love to have had just a peek beyond one of those old closed doors. It was a mystical time between night and day, some of porch and street lights were still lit. I could see it had been chilly night, and one house had smake coming from a chimney. Someone was up early, had kindled a fire to take the chill off the room. Was it a kitchen, I hope? Was the kettle on for breakfast? I have always loved England and the stories and histories about England. Thank you for your comment and reminder that old England survives. I am from the USA, and have only traveled to Canada. My father always wanted to visit Wales. Ww have Welsh and English ancestry. He used to say he had a homesickness and a longing for the land that he had never seen.and I have it also.

@@jacoboc2244 Sad, but true. Historic buildings have been torn down and replaced by new, modern developments. Large, chain retailers have overtaken smaller, independent stores. Every large American city along with many European cities have all fallen victim to this. A matter of "economics" and progress. Still so sad.

@Dream Collector. If you ever have the chance to visit the UK, do yourself a favour and avoid London totally. It is dirty, dangerous, horrendously expensive and very unfriendly. I have the misfortune to live in London until my contract ends next year, and I cannot wait to get out of this hellhole. It has as much in common with the rest of the UK as a fish does with cow. If you like city life there are some incredible places to go visit here where you will find some beautiful experiences. Start off with places like York, Bath, Norwich, Cheltenham, Shrewsbury, Edinburgh, Londonderry, Dundee, Carlisle, Plymouth, Exeter, Cirencester, Chester. The list goes on. Anywhere but London!

In '91 my wife and I took a motoring tour of Britain (more than 2,200 miles round-trip). From Bognor Regis we made our way to Winchester and then Salisbury to visit the cathedrals and then, of course, along to Stonehenge. We had planned to next visit Bath but enroute we noted a road sign to Lacock marked "tourist attraction" and so drove the short distance spending a couple of hours walking through the lanes and streets. We were thankful to have seen such a charming place and the significant number of houses and other structures dating back to the 16th and 17th C. We did not see nearly so many vehicles in the town as is shown in the video.

Well the government is busily looking around to find the best ones to destroy first ,building houses for immigrants and new roads to service them. The lefties hate England and are destroying it rapidly. When I was a boy pretty villages existed a mere 10-12 miles outside Charing Cross ,London. They’ve all gone, dissolved in a sea of housing and roads.

A few observations. The UK is north of the 48 states, so the angle of incidence of sunlight is less, light is less intense, days are longer in Summer, shorter in Winter. Its entire climate is moderated by the Gulf Stream, without the weather extremes of the US. There are almost no wood frame homes (brick, stone, tile), colors of domestic architecture are not as varied, older domestic structures. Likewise, there is less variety of domestic architecture. Street and road design is generally older, narrower roadways. Little easement for properties adjacent roadways. Less intensive commercialization of rural areas. Then there's rain and overcast. If it isn't raining, it's either just finished raining or it's about to rain.

So many fond memories of Lacock while watching this. My grandmother's family came from here, and she met my grandfather while working as maid and gardener, respectively, at the Abbey. They lived in the Lodge. I had cousins living in the corner house with the blue door, opposite the Red Lion pub, another further up the High St, by the school, and another halfway down East St next to the pre-school/chapel. Used to bring her back to the village for a family get-together every year on her birthday, into her 90s. Happy days.
