This is a lacquered music box made in Aizu, Fukushima Prefecture which is known for producing Aizu lacquerware. Aizu lacquerware has a history of more than 400 years and was designated as Traditional Crafts of Japan in 1975.
When the drawer is opened, it plays a Japanese folk song “Sakura sakura” which depicts the season of cherry blossoms.
