They aren't allowed chunky tyres - only road tyres which have to meet a certain specification.

It creates a small industry of specialists who repair and remake componants that would otherwise be unavailable for other car owners who make more normal use of their cars.

Why break it in the first place? The VSCC regard Austin chummies as disposable "entry level" vintage cars.

@@SimonLewsBooks I must admit i hadn't contemplated that argument/justification. All i tend to see is abuse that the cars were originally subjected to when they were new, as a marketing tool to assure potential customers of the durability of the product. As you know there are an awful lot of grease nipples on a vintage or PVT vehicle, and having hosed all the crud off afterwards the proper approach would be to wait 2 days for everything to dry out before pumping fresh grease in. I can't imagine anyone who has rebuilt a clapped vehicle of this age with their own hands (ie not paid someone else to do it) would trial it......In the same way that Edd China will tend to change gear at 1,000rpm less than the 'other bloke' will- because the former rebuilt the engine! Or perhaps...... 'They were so preoccupied with the fact that they could, they didn't stop to think whether they should'
