Accents aside, can we talk about how much they look alike? Damn....

She honestly was born to be in show business, she is a natural born performer. Crazy talented

As an Italian, I think the accent isn’t spot on. BUT they look sooo alike. It’s mindblowing.

Maybe it's because she had the most screen time in the trailer, but people are focusing waaaay too much on Gaga's accent over the other actors. She actually had the most consistent accent in the movie - everyone else was all over the place. Jeremy Irons just sounded British half the time, and Adam Driver's was equally shaky. Al Pacino did his usual Italian American thing. It seemed like Gaga and Leto were the only ones making a real effort, accent-wise.

Ok, but the way she emulates her facial expressions and even some of her mannerisms, wow.

I hope she continues being an actress. She found another spot where she can excell. Omg, Gaga. I am not even that much of a fan of her, but I feel proud. 😭

I thought Gaga sounded a bit Russian when I saw the trailer, but this comparison changed me thinking it was off because of that. She actually sounds like the person she’s emulating. And she actually really put the work in and tries to do it, which not all the actors have.

Most people wouldn't notice (or care) about the accent. She looks fantastic and WOW, such a close comparison in the look. Love her. Amazing talent.

I'm obsessed with the way Gaga performed and spoke the line "ON JUNK!", her aggressive gesture and facial expressions and tone of voice just make it all so impactful and punchy to the gut serious. I love it.

She's a talented musician so she must have the ability to easily emulate sounds and accents

Well, even powerhouse Jeremy Irons' accent in this film is not perfect. I'm no vocal expert, but his British drawl (to my ears) would leak through every now and then. And he is an acclaimed, seasoned actor with innumerable stellar performances. So, I think Lady Gaga gave a considerably impressive performance for an inexperienced actress. I'm really looking forward to seeing her grow and I hope she continues taking on more roles :)

Her acting is brilliant, and her presence is more than just beauty alone. I must see this.

Patrizia’s accent is trying to properly speak english, while lady gaga’s is trying to emulate the accent (an Italian one). That’s why there is something different

she did an AMAZING job. don’t know why people are expecting her to sound EXACTLY the same as patrizia, she’s an actress, didn’t grow up in italy and she hit it pretty damn close

As an Italian I don’t think she nailed it but as an artist I think she did a pretty good job!! It may look like it is but it’s far from easy to incorporate somebody who ain’t ya (specially if that person rly did exist irl and wasn’t a created figure just for a random work)!! Gaga's accent is really close and very good. It's very integrated. I find it fascinating that people want to come for Gaga's accent but don't even mention Adam's. Like... Adam Driver is a fantastic actor, but his accent pales in comparison to Gaga's. You can tell that she did the work. No, it's not an absolutely perfect replica, but what accent is?

After I saw A Star is Born, it truly showed me how great an actress Lady Gaga is. I’d love to see her dive further into the world of acting in addition to her music

What a lot of people are missing , I think is that Gaga is not supposed to speak broken English - we are supposed to believe that she is speaking Italian, while we are hearing English with an accent. So of course she is fluent and uses metaphors and phrases which an Italian trying to speak English won’t know or use. She IS an Italian speaking Italian, that’s the purpose of the accent

I’m gonna say this with most respect. People are giving her a hard time because she’s a pop star. Madonna got the same hate with anything she did. Like Madonna, Gaga will rise from this accent nonsense. I love them both. Gaga is slaying this and I’m so looking forward to this movie.

That “You’re laughing it off” line is so fluid and sounds so natural but doesn’t sound like Gaga at all. It’s crazy!

I am Northern Irish (quite different from the generic notion of 'Irish'). It is quite a distinctive accent and despite growing up in England, I haven't lost it. But if an actor not from NI made a reasonable attempt at the accent, I won't nitpick and expect it to be 100% like mine. Getting it broadly close is a reasonable expectation. I think that with all due respect, some critics here are being too perfectionist. Accents are not easy to do and I think Lady Gaga made a reasonable effort here.

I had an Italian flatmate and her accent was pretty much identical to Lady Gaga’s. I was actually gobsmacked by the resemblance, Gaga did an incredible job! ❤

I love when I've loved someone from the very beginning of their career and i can just proudly watch them become greater and greater for years. She just keeps wowing us.

Even though Gaga is doing a good job, I think the script betrays her at times. For example, here when she says “but you’re laughing it off“ it’s not believable because that’s an expression that doesn’t literally translate in Italian. It’s hard to believe that someone who isn’t supposed to be completely fluent in English has these expressions on deck. It probably would have been more realistic if she had simply said “you are laughing!“ or maybe an Italian expression literally translated into English. Or better yet, an Italian expression in Italian? Overall, a bit of improper grammar and slight mistakes can be a nice touch because that’s how non-native speakers talk in real life. Unfortunately, Hollywood rarely does this. Edit: since people keep commenting about this, of course, there are exceptions, of course, some non-native speakers probably know and use that expression. What I should have said was that non-native speakers TEND to talk more imperfectly, and with fewer idiomatic expressions in real life.

Lady Gaga is an american who tries to speak in her mother language with italian accent, Patrizia is an italian who tries to speak english ... the accent is different. But the look is Amazing she really look like Patrizia the face is similar , the make up is perfect and the wig too ... good job

Yes though the slight differences, I would've preferred a clip with them saying similar things then it is easier to dictate. However needless to say it is remarkable on the behalf of gaga and I do think that the major difference would just simply be in the tone of voice rather than the accent perse

Just heard the video again with closed eyes. Yes Gaga’s accent is not Italian. The real lady’s speech has more vibrations. Very true. But great work by Gaga.

Accents are incredibly hard to master and I think Lady Gaga has come really close! I think the one thing she's missing from the clips I've seen is the overenunciation at the end of certain words. For example when Patrizia says "You are not..." it's "You are not-UH" very common with native Italians!

Patrizia's accent is more soft while Gaga's is more strong. As an Italian myself, I don't think she nailed it. However, it's not that bad either but it reminds me more of a slavic accent.

Though she looks very convincingly like Patrizia Reggiani, Gaga's accent is missing in some very subtle but crucially important ways. It's the reason she ends up sounding sort of Russian instead of Italian, she's dropping the soft upward and forward lilt of Patrizia's pronunciation in the speech cycle and instead has started moving backward (a common mistake when learning an Italian accent) which can make the speaker sound more Transylvanian. Listen carefully to the way they end their words and sentences and you will be able to notice more clearly what is missing from Gaga's performance.
