I'm realizing something new watching this 12 years later. She definitely and intententionally made the decision to have, "No matter gay, straight or bi, lesbian, transgender life," be the pinnacle of this performance. She's literally on the top of the stage. Belting these words. And has a church organ blasting. Like this performance feels like yesterday but this took place during the marriage equality era in the U.S. For that I am thankful. For Lady Gaga, I am thankful.
All of what you mentioned is disgusting. Gays are disgusting that men are made for women and women are made for men and there is nothing scientifically called hormones that make you gay stop being so stupid and think about it
The whole thing is perfect, but everything from"Don't be a drag / just be a queen" onwards is iconic-queer brilliance - she's absolutely Mother Monster here.
Not really. Like she encouraged a lot of people but she didn’t save an entire generation that’s a huge stretch to say that. I’m a queer person and an SA survivor who absolutely was NOT saved by lady Gaga nor was anyone else in my community who aren’t Gaga stans. I’m like the only even casual fan in my local queer community. She certainly touched a LARGE part of a generation and had a huge influence on music fashion and culture but she didn’t save a generation at all or anywhere near even if she did save a LOT of her fans
i wish when i was a teenager there was a person like her, but i was born too late, and I'm not seeing anyone would reach her high yet, really sad time we are at right now:(.
@@mikopo88 I used myself AND my immediate surround communit an example because it's a pretty standard real life sample of the generation in question and therefore a simple way to explain it. Its not about me feeling "more special" (I don't? Srsly wtf are you projecting?) and that's an absurd thing to read into my comment, and a deliberately incorrect way to interpret what I said. The point is, she didn't save a whole generation. I didn't say we should discount or disregard ANY of her achievements, support or activism - I quite explicitly praised her for all of that. All I said was that it's a fkn huuuuge over statement to claim she saved a whole generation when she didn't, and she's not even known by an entire generation let alone is an entire generation invested enough in her to feel saved by her. She certainly must have saved a LOT of lives, to the point where she is probably often told stiff like "having you as a role model growing up saved my life" but there's a whole massassssssiiiiivvveee chunk of that same generation of queer kids who didn't listen to her music, knew almost nothing about her or even actively disliked her who would state their role rodels as entirely different queer figures who were prominent at the time. She was massive, she saved lives, she advocated for the queer community and SA survivors and she deserves praise and thanks. But she didn't save a whole entire generation of people from otherwise meeting imminent death or a horrible fate. My point is that I think over exaggerating her impact and achievements with hyperbole is actually a huge disservice and discredit to what she has actually done. What she has done doesn't need to be wildly over exaggerated to still be insanely important and worthy of being part of history, and I think that it actually kind of shits on what she actually has achieved when people feel the need to over exaggerate it, it makes it sound like they don't view the straight plane facts as extraordinary enough on their own. there are billions of people on earth and most weren't impacted by her even one iota, not even a tiny bit, BUT she did make a lasting a history making impression on enough to be a global influence and she did save the lives of many of her die hard fans all over the world. Its that simple of a thing that im stating and you completely twisted my words because it wasn't just a comment saying "omfg yassss gaga is mother slaaaay" Like your brain can't comprehend an even slightly nuanced, reasonably stated balanced fact. I didn't say anything remotely hateful or shit on her in any way ffs you just can't read more than two sentences without getting overwhelmed and confused
@@scottgessford7878 sure its mainly about the LGBTQIA+ community but it also clearly have lyrics regarding racial diversity. Being "born this way" refers to your skin colour, your gender, your sexuality, your diasbility status...
The first time she ascended those stairs, slammed that church organ, and sang "NO MATTER GAY STRAIGHT OR BI LESBIAN TRANSGENDER LIFE" lemme tell you I was REBORN.
I sang this song to my Aspie (Asperger's/hfAutism) son when he was young and I had to teach him about music!! God makes no mistakes. BTW...he loves music now at 17.
And she has always been one of the best at it. Her performances and concerts are insane in that aspect. She is so inspirational and I will always love her!
The fact that she is high heels... The fact that she is singing and dancing, playing piano... The fact that we are ending 2022 and this is still ICONIC... LOVE YOU GAGA ARTIST OF THE DECADES
Who are these people who underestimate her singing? I've never met anyone who said she can't sing. If anything, she is very much recognized for her singing abilities.
@@sarac.3568 wow you're lucky! Since I was 4 (when she became famous, 2008) I've heard thousands of times that Gaga can't sing! I still hear it nowadays but it's very rare.
lady gaga is without a doubt one of the finest charismatic and flamboyant women in all of music people need to stop hating on this women shes always been amazing to me her dancing and performing level is fabulous and excellent her voice is versatile engaging and poetic and her song writing is profound and brilliant i cant say one bad thing about lady gaga as far as artistic talent goes shes perfect and a flawless performer and a true inspirational artist shes a 10 out 10 for me
Even 11 years out, this performance, this version of this song is my absolute favorite. Being a music major, the addition of the organ just makes me happy, but also the altered rythym for 'whether gay, straight, or bi, lesbian, trangender life' just gives me chills...Every. Damn. Time.
Life lesson #1: Do not watch a Gaga performance on RU-vid without ample enough time to also watch 20+ other Gaga performances with completely different concepts. What a beautifully talented human and LEGEND.
Max Whitney Her "Applause" performance at the 2013 MTV VMA's is my absolute favorite 💗 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-G0gEoFbHlIk.html
watching this as a teenager when you're still trying to figure yourself out, this song was the hug I needed back then, made me feel like i trutly belong and there's nothing wrong with me. thank you forever gaga ♥
when she straight up SAID the words and didn’t beat around the bush like most artists would, the world was too shook to respond. nothing but respect ✊🏻
This performance always brings me to tears. Looking back 11 years ago this being performed at the Grammys was such a history changer. She helped a lot of people feel more loved than they were before. Of course it didn’t fix everything but she opened everyone with open arms no matter who you are and that is just so emotional for me. Everyone deserves to be happy and loved
This is the most Iconic Grammy Perfomance! I just rewatched it again, and giving me goosbumps...joy of of tears..... Lady Gaga made my teenage time so meaningful!
My bestfriend was Lady Gaga’s biggest fan. She passed away last November. I find myself watching these videos and listening to this music a lot more now. It makes me feel closer to her. Rest In Peace, Angel. 🖤💔
*LADY GAGA* was the FIRST pop icon in music industry's history who sang about EVERY SINGLE LETTER in the LGBT (when ya faves were afraid to even say that), and she's the first who advocate for TRANS people in her music, and all of that was in one hit song called Born This Way. The whole record is dedicated to the LGBT and the people of color. Not even mentioning that she sang it at the Super Bowl in front of all the dusty conservatives (155m people). WE HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO STAN!
Diana Ross, Cher, Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Queen, Annie Lennox, Boy Georges, David Bowie, Elton John, Grâce Jones, Kylie Minogue, Cyndi Lauper, Gloria Gaynor... say HI 👋🏻
I love this. Gaga is singing live, dancing in latex which isn't easy and the coreo uses all the levels. No stage elements but the egg. It's brilliant. All on live TV during Primetime broadcast. Truly the first multimedia pop star. And it's such an austere performance you just get Gaga and the dancers and that's true fan service. Thank you Gaga! Paws up! 😅😅😅
@@gabvulpes This Grammy Awards show was in February of 2011. She turned 35 this March. So 10 years ago during the time of this Grammys she would have been 24 about to turn 25 the following month.
I remember in middle/high school people thinking I was so strange for liking her. I got comments like “she kisses girls” or “you know she’s bisexual, right?” and “she’s SO weird”. And I just couldn’t comprehend why that was such a big deal to people and why it held them back from liking her and appreciating her music. Fast forward to today and people are finally starting to understand.
Her arriving in the vessel as a metaphor for being reborn when you start loving yourself will always be one of the most iconic moments in the history of Pop, no matter what anyone could say... this is pure art here. And the amount of talent she showcased in this performance is undeniable. GaGa has made her mark in Pop
I was fortunate enough to see her live. She is incredible. As a fellow fibromyalgia warrior, she has set the bar really high. I also concentrate on what I CAN do, not what I can’t. I love you Stefanie. 😍
Hello,All American 🇺🇸 🇯🇵 When Born This Way remains at number one for 10 consecutive weeks. At that time, the 3.11 earthquake hit Japan. When the situation calmed down, Gaga worried about Japan and came to Japan. We Japanese will never forget Gaga's kindness and courage.🙏 Thank you very much GAGA❤️
nice try, all what you said even a B-rated singer can archieve haahahahahaha So gaga's just on that level??? where is her top 10 billboard 100? where is Perfect illusion on the chart? where is million reasons ? #64 or #85? where are 100M views for 2 new MVs? LOL =))))))))) SHE'S FLOP AS FUCK. dont try to deny it, poor you
Anh Tuấn b rated singer oh please no b rated singer can get 12 world records 300 awards 6 grammys 1 golden globe sold more than 300 million records sold more than 45 million albums ww!!!just shut the fuck up and accept the truth that gaga is still slaying!!
One of the toughest performance in Grammy history. Dance a lot in insane heels. maintain breath and take out tough head voice which required relax body
An actual icon in pop music, her impact can't be denied. I was in elementary school during her peak of stardom, and I remember everyone was always anxious to see what Gaga was going to do next. What crazy outfit was she going to wear on the red carpet? What would her new music video be? What would be her next hit single? Truly an artist who can sing beautifully, write quality, original music, and put on a performance.
kamila Ford You were in elementary school at the peak of her career??? That would make you... holy shit that would make you almost a young adult now. I'm old
"Born This Way" is awesome. I really wish it would have come out when I was young. I'm 61 and absolutely LOVE this song. It gives me hope! It gives me pride! All my life I have felt unworthy of love and/or respect. This song woke something in me and today I am stronger than I would have ever been. Thank You, Lady Gaga. I, and many many many others, love you for showing us the way.
@Bruce, yes!! So happy to read that, I have felt the same since I listened to this song first time she sang it at the Grammys, it's really an inspiring song! Peace and love to you all!
This could’ve gone pretty bad but it was a superb performance that cemented her as a great visual artist with tremendous work ethic and talent What a time to be alive and see this performance live
How is that even possible ??? Dancing while singing live and singing exactly like the studio version ?!?! And all this creativity in this performance omg .... SHE IS AN ICON
still one of the best performances ever! the alien concept, the outfits, the prosthetics, the hair flips, the head piano, everything is perfect! no one does it like her, she's really ahead of her time.
@@terry2843 The truthful lyrics for the gaga song: born this way: The lyrics should be like this: there is a problem about who we are, we live with sinful nature. We all are called to REPENTANCE, to change our minds and our hearts. We all are called back HOME, but PRIDE keeps us far. So lets humble ourselves before GOD/CHRIST and lets answer to the calling. I have sinned and felled short in the glory of GOD and without repenting i am at the wrong path. How can we ask for love if there is none in us, we abuse ourselves and others daily. How can say we`re good if only do is sin, we telling lies, stealing lives, and destroying the light. Yea we were born a sinner, lifelong sinful nature, but now we all are called to have new birth. Don`t stay a sinner, become a new creature in Christ who promise to give you a warm heart. Yea we were born sinners, but in Christ can we be brand new, without a sin of any kind. Be you black or white, small or great, GOD through Christ calls all home. Are we gonna answer or is our hearts grown cold? Our eyes and ears have we closed? Are we all lost cases or is there still a chance that some of us shall be saved? If we could change our lives, would we took the chance? Or are we quick to say: “no, thanks, im good”?
when the pause before the bridge happened, i figured "oh i guess they wouldnt let her sing Those Lyrics on live tv" but, OH NO, she was simply gearing up to it and being beautiful n dramatic. i cried, yall.
The fact that she brought a church organ to this performance, especially at the bridge where she lists the outcasted people, is simply fucking brilliant, omg
It’s amazing how what some people considered a “trendy artist” managed to stay relevant for so long. She’s like a chameleon in every sense of the word.
Shes a triple threat, incredible performer, amazing actress, and a social media sensation. She is always ahead of her time an instead of following trends she makes them. A fucking icon.
@Ares an award given by MTV VMA for mastering in three or more fields because Gaga is a musician, an actress, a fashion icon, and an activist. Tricon is so special because Gaga is the first awardee ever
Yess!! I think it’s also her continued support that also keeps all her fans here. Because yes she’s one of the best singers I’ve ever heard but ok personally I used to feel super connected and safe whenever I listened to her music as a kid. And now I’m older I now know I’m an enby lesbian but back then I had no clue. And yet some sub conscious part of my brain knew her music was going to be my safe/happy place for over the next 10+ yrs. I love Gaga and always will because her music helped me feel loved when my family didn’t ❤️🌈
