I hate the fact that most of the fans think Dope is the worst on the album. For me this is her best vocal performance.

Listen to "I need you more than dope" as a confession instead of a statement, and it makes the whole song unbearably heart-breaking.

Why does the photo for the cover bother everybody? This song is about fighting addiction, and addiction is very ugly! I think it's genius for Gaga to portray it this way!

This is one of my favorite Lady Gaga songs of all time. It really showcases Gaga's songwriting and vocal abilities. This song is so meaningful. Ballads don't sell well, but this should have been a single.

I love the subtle dark synths starting from around 1:50 ... This minimal production and her raw vocals give this song a ton of emotional resonance

People: the meaning of the cover is simple. The teeth and injuries reflect the harm that drugs (or whatever) left on her, a permanent reminder of her sins. The hood that covers her eyes means she's ashamed of doing what she did. She uses her raw voice because she s displaying herself as a simple human who makes mistakes. It s the deepest expression of regret, and the photo mixes the song perfectly

Being someone who has battled with depression, self harm, drug use, meth and fentanyl/opiate addiction/physical dependence, this is by far one of my favorite Gaga songs and one of the songs by her that speaks to me and touches me the most especially emotionally and mentally because I relate to it so much! Gaga has many many great amazing songs that I absolutely love, relate to, and have memories that the songs bring back such as songs like Paparazzi, Just Dance, Bad Romance, Alejandro, Dance In the Dark, and so many more but this one I just relate to in such a different and more personal way and in more than one way. And I'll always love this song and think it deserves more recognition than it's gotten and it will always be one of my absolute favorites.

It's funny how this was a top 10 hit, and yet only a promo single. Also, doesn't sound like anything on the radio right now. This is why Lady Gaga still slays.

I always used to skip this song when playing Artpop and I would say pretty openly that I thought it was the worst on the album…but then last summer I lost a friend to drug addiction. I tried many times to get him sober but he just kept falling off the wagon… and this time listening to the song I actually listened to the words and was reminded so much of when he would call me crying and confessing that he’d relapsed….and now I’m crying 😭 I’m sorry Dope, I wasn’t ready for you when the album dropped a decade ago, but I am now!!

I won't lie, when I heard the title of this song, I thought "seriously?" Goes to show you can't judge a song by its title ether.

To everyone who finds the cover is scary, that's the point. This isn't an artsy statement, this is how you're when you're gone, when its addiction over family and friends. If you don't notice the grill is to give the effects of what drugs does to your health, the "bite"marks on her leg, are actually injected areas as well as inflicted areas, the bruising, the pain. The hair and hat represent the lost of self respect, the shame you feel, the style/her outfit represents what you become, an outcast, people don't recognize you, you don't recognize you. This isn't artsy fartsy oh she's trying to look fashionable. This is a statement, if it doesn't scare, GAGA hasn't done her job. Commendable, but people think oh she mediates because she's trying to look like some aristocrat or sophisticated. Everything Gaga does, the way she is portrayed she sees it as a means of spreading something that is affecting her that is her inspiration, and though it gets lost in translation sometimes, its a difference of mainstream media artistically opinion over gaga's.

i read a comment at a gaga's fan page claiming that Million Reasons is her best ballad and Dope the worst. leeel. This is probably one of my fave songs of her. So raw, naked, vulnerable and honest. That piano intro tho'.

There's no such thing as a "flop" there's just artists releasing music for their FANS to enjoy, who gives a fuck about charts and numbers. Of course not every single person in the world is going to like a song, people are always gonna have their own opinions, which they should keep to themselves. P.S this is a beautiful song.

I actually think this is my favorite album. It doesn't have my favorite lady gaga songs (marry the night and more) but overall the entire album is great. The best way to explain it is it can listen to every song in this album and jam while her previous albums had fewer great songs. People now just care for the singles.

You don't have to be an addict to enjoy or understand this song. It's about her giving up an addiction on the surface, but the underlying theme is the struggle of giving up something for someone that means more. This and Gypsy are my favorites from Artpop. I feel like they're the deepest and most personal c:

For 2 years, he is the best friend that I've ever had in my entire life, I swear to god. He was literally like a brother to me. He know that i'm a huge Lady Gaga fan so he was the one that introduced me to this song then I fell in love with this song. But because of my fault, we're not friend anymore. Just like the lyric say, I fucked up again. I haven't met him more than 2 years. Worst thing is for all this time, I haven't say that I'M SORRY!!! In my entire life, I have a few great friends but nothing is like him. He was just like a brother for me. It was all my mistake. How could I ever forgive myself? Till this goddamn day, I haven't apologised to him cause I just feel so ashamed of myself after what I've said and done to him. I think we need a music video where she's dressed in rags with her natural hair in a one room dark and dank apartment sitting at a big black grand piano singing dope but then she starts singing Gypsy and as the song starts going her surroundings change and her clothes and hair change into something Gaga-ish.

Who cares about rank? As long as she's making enough money to live on and doing what she loves, why does rank even matter? Music is art people, lets not forget that.

This shows her talent as an artist.. She really created a scenery with this.. The lowest point of an artist's life... Imagined her getting back to her NYC apartment.. After being so worned off by the high or the hang over.. Trying recollect herself, she stumbled upon her old piano. Sat Down. In silence. With the tears slowly pouring..The emptiness and the heartbreaks consumed her.. And then a tune came in her mind.. Started playing and words just came out as she pounded the keys and the emotions ran down.. Screaming on the top of her lungs her dismays and that filled the empty room.. then she strucked the last key of the note...And left in Silence... She's one of a kind.

I love how songs like Jewels and Drugs, Manicure, Do what you want and Mary Jane Holland build up to this song. It’s like hey give drugs a try and then this is the fall....

Why do people insist that this album was a flop? In my opinion, because of "ARTPOP" I became a huge fan. For me this is her best album by far!

I think that so many people dislike her because of how she portrays herself. They look at her album covers and stuff like that and turn them down because they aren't as appealing as Ariana Grande or something of the sort. But her voice is simply ecstacy.

What amuses me most is the simple fact that these people calling Gaga a "flop" probably completely lack vocal talent, they are probably not as successful as her, I am fairly positive as well that they wouldn't be able to become a household name like Gaga has either. Like it or not, nearly everyone knows who she is, or has at least heard of her. People of all faiths, nationalities, ethnicities, etc. know who she is. You would likely have to grow up under a rock to not know she is, and even then someone probably walked by the rock playing her music so that wouldn't be enough. It's hard to find someone who has absolutely no idea who this woman is. The number of sales don't matter. Someone stated earlier "It's not competitive sports" .. It's not. I agree. Sure, sales are an important aspect of *staying* in the music business, but she's still doing well. One must also take into account that some people don't buy their music (either they don't want to, or they cannot afford it) so they listen on RU-vid, Pandora, iTunes Radio, Spotify, OR pirate it. So that doesn't go into how many sales made. I think that if you showed listeners - as well as people who pirated the whole album- you may have a different outcome.. Of course, so would the others.. None the less. If you love Gaga, or hate her, that name is still in your mouth, you're still writing about her, still giving her a bit of free publicity, and you are raising her views and comments on her videos (therefore putting more money in her pocket- the ads will give her money per 1,000 views or something along those lines) AND you increase the amount of people counted as viewing her Vevo videos. *Shrugs* So go for it. Hate on Gaga. All you succeed at is looking foolish, and rather jealous TBH, and you are raising the popularity of her videos. :3 I am not a crazed Monster who hates people who dislike or "hate" Gaga. I just think they are being silly hating someone yet boosting their views and wasting their time and breath.. I have friends who dislike her. It's not a huge deal. But it's amusing. I love Gaga, and her music is great. Her vocals are to die for - and I wish I was as blessed as her in the vocal department. She is a beautiful human being for sure, inside and out. I like her lyrics, her songs are catchy and have meaning, and people should give her some damn props for not lip singing - because so many celebs do it these days, when in reality they should sing live at a live concert. I get so emotional each time I listen to this song. My mother had a drug problem. I've spent 2 days without knowing if she was alive or not. I didn't cry in front of my family, but, when my grand-mother was talking to her for the first time in these 2 days, I faced the wall and cried. When my grand-mother told me my mother wanted to talk to me, I quickly wiped my tears away and said yes. The first words that my mother told me were:“I'm sorry!” I didn't know what to answer so I told her that it was ok. the fact that this song is placed after mary jane holland (a song about weed and her alter ego) in the tracklist hits harder. i feel like dope is about gaga regretting of using too much drugs that it really affect her life, health, and her friends. what a powerful song and this shows how gaga has been through a lot during this era and she had to marry the darkness on her side.

"I wanna be with you" is a beautiful song but it's just another love song. I like the the way gaga transform typical love lyrics into something more serious and make more impact.

I've recently become a Gaga fan, or a Lil' Monster and I have to say that even though it was Gypsy and Dope (and several other Artpop songs) that made me a die hard fan of hers, I went back and listened to all her other music and I am so ashamed that I didn't see how absolutely BRILLIANT this woman is!! She is so remarkable. Her talent exceeds anything I've heard in years. I went out and bought all her albums and I am now proudly a certified FANATIC and spreading the word to everyone I know about how amazing she is! LOVE YOU LADY Gaga!
