This song is actually really dark when you look at it in the context of the lyrics. I actually started crying when I finally got it. edit: my interpretation. - The first verse talks about how she was build up THE top popstar of her time and was very successful, but they put her in that box of what they build her up to be. With how successful The Fame and Born this Way was. - The Chorus sings about how people say she's faked or how because they don't see her as a person and that they don't realize that she's a human being with real feelings, that she isn't static. she wants to try different things she wants to be free to do what she loves. - The second verse alludes to her Artpop era, addressing her "fans" if this is still what they like. she was doing more of what she wanted to do more but since it wasn't what people came to expect of her and it wasn't as successful. The media and fans mercilessly tore through her and unfairly criticize her. - The bridge is about the Joanne era, after all the shit from Artpop and personal life turmoil she said fuck it and did what she needed to heal. People saw that she dressed differently for the era, the tie in with the hat. People didn't get why she was crying so much or they didn't care, they asked why she made "sad' music and made fun of her and constantly billying her on why she wasn't making pop music . Many fans still don't respect or want to acknowledge the Joanne era because they don't wants to admit how badly everyone treated her in that time. underneath all that cute and bubbly production is actually a very sad that gaga had to experience. a song about not letting people control you like a doll and use her like that. its actually a very cleverly written and produced when you look it in tha way, its like DWUW on the surface you think its just a sexy song but then you read in between the lines on what she's really saying.
