Lady Jessica Character Analysis ✨ Dune Part 2 

The Lady Jessica is more conflicted in the novel, but is also the obvious protagonist of the events leading to the Kwitsaz Haderach and the Great Jihad. An appendix to the novel explains that her love for Duke Leto is insufficient to disobey the instruction from Gaius Helen Mohiam to only bear daughters: in fact, even with deep probing, she cannot understand her motive to bear a son. At the same time, something (someone!) is interfering with the Bene Gesserit so that they miss clues that a 'wild factor' has emerged on Arrakis: clues stemming from the very mythology implanted there by the Missionaria Protectiva of the Bene Gesserit! Frank Herbert makes the comment 'It is obvious someone was using higher order dimensions, interfering with the Bene Gesserit's assessment of events on Arrakis: something the Bene Gesserit, for the first time in its existence, totally missed. Lady Jessica's role as the protagonist of the novel is pretty well carried in the movie and I am glad you picked it up. As Paul says to himself following Jamis funeral and the revelation of the great pool of water stored underground in Sietch Tabr, "My mother is my enemy. She does not know it, but she is. She is bringing the Jihad. she bore me: she trained me."

I left the theaters convinced that Lady Jessica is the REAL villain of the Dune story! She has Paul and the Fermen wrap around her finger.

If it's confusing, they left out a lot in the movie and changed some things , the book explains their motives and why things were done.

A vid for something that is quite obvious as a whole for the Bene Gesserit, and more even for Jessica

Denis villeneuve wrote it that way, he said he's gearing the movies that way and showing jessica as the architect of this plot. In reality, she was just preparing her son, the same way all his other teachers did for a duke's son.
