I graduated with lael and had 0 idea about this. I'm surprised and her online persona is not reflective of how she was in school. Popular, but always kind to everyone. Didn't expect her to become a reaction video turned musicians who has these kind of RU-vid videos made about her.

For anyone who actually has depression would totally understand why singing some sad songs would make her happier. Art is like a source of therapy. And often talking about why you're sad actually helps. So the fact that she found an outlet for her pain.....it's a sort of release value. It helps take the pressure off if you will.

She wanted to be mysterious & edgy like Poppy.. poorly executed & everyone saw through it 😬

honestly the problem with her is one i have seen with many youtubers that wanted to go into music. there is this cliché that todays music is just so "easy" and everybody could do it if they just had the exposure and Status but this isn't the case at all. Most of your favorite artists have put hours and hours of blond sweat and tears into their craft. While it may be easy to recreate a sound of somebody on the surface and make a good impression with the A+ production and visuals it doesn't mean that they are gonna have the same impact. Now you can still make your music work as a youtuber. However most Fans of the music from people like KSI and Quadeca do watch their youtube Videos at the same time. Lael stopped making videos completely. Now the problem is you either wanna be a youtuber who makes music or you wanna be a serious artist, but if latter is the case you just gotta put some real work into the music before you release all this high definition videos. Otherwise you end up being frustrated and blame the world or try desperate marketing stunts.

The way she went about the video from my perspective as someone who had never heard of her; “I am a loner with absolutely no public presence, who has been making art (music, music videos, editing) in private for themselves only until this video that I’m posting now!” It’s so clearly manipulative and deceitful even for the music industry.

She tried to pull a Joji: leave RU-vid and become a musician but the only problem is that she isn’t actually talented.

Lael arguably has a lot going for her currently. She wanted to become an artist, and so she's pursuing that dream of being an artist; it's respectable. On top of that, this may not be that much of a popular opinion, but I think her songs sound fine paired with the music videos that are clearly high quality. Though, I really don't like with the whole TikTok marketing strategy she's doing currently; if you can even call it a marketing strategy. Saying your life sucks is overexaggerating, especially if you already had a following going into the music industry and pursuing that. On top of that, making a case of other artists saying that they sold their 'morality' to become famous is dismissing the fact that these same artists put thousands, potentially tens of thousands of hours into their work to get where they're at today. It's being disingenuous. I really hope she gets back on track, because being the most hated person like you said: is setting yourself up for a miserable life.

Look at KSI ,he never forgot where he came from ,he takes pride that he started from the bottom and through youtube built an audience that could get behind his music .He never lied about how his life was ,always staying true and trying hia hardest to keep off of negative drama (the whole Deji fiasco).And now he is enjoying great succes .

Once you choose to become an artist, you gotta own up to the decision. It’s not an easy path. You can’t have people support you out of needing. It’s not genuine. The market will let you know if you’re music is good or not. Especially having a platform to build up on prior to making music, is already a big plus. Focus on the people who are already supporting you, instead of trying to bring new people in in ways that aren’t sustainable

The funniest part of the Billie Eilish clone thing is that she made a video I think a year ago where she LITERALLY went to a mall pretending to be Billie Eilish. It was so sad that the real Billie Eilish called it out on her Instagram story.

I feel like even though Lael is depressed, making those songs is making her happy because she is able to put those negative thoughts into words and actually get it out her system. I think we see that with a lot of artists where they slowly grow out of their 'depressed music phase' and move on to 'happier songs'. It's funny how people are calling Lael a "Billie clone" but Billie is a good example of an artist who 'grew out of their depressed phase'. Unlike when she was doing youtube, she didn't find a way to get those feelings out her system and shutdown which would make sense as to why she just disappeared off of youtube without any explaination. And during that time searched for something that would make her happy that being her music (I guess)

From someone who writes music and has had depression and mental illness since 11 writing sad songs can make you “happy” not in the normal way. It’s like listening to sad music when sad it just feels good to vent it out.

As a former musician who played a lot of shows I can tell you I used to try to sway musicians I knew from thinking "every knew song was the best song ever" and bragging in advance. It always blows up in your face. Art can be a beautiful thing but it's completely subjective. The moment you put it out into the world the public is entitled to have an opinion. If you can't handle criticism art definitely isn't for you.

Making and listening to sad music is actually what helped me get out of my depression. Idk why but the comfort of getting it out and knowing you aren’t alone in how you feel helps a lot.

I feel like the problem is that the fanbase has really grown to accept this image from her which was opposite of what she used to be. She left without telling any one and came back with an image opposite of what she use to be which has been done before (billie eilish) so to a lot of people,it doesnt feel authentic and drawn from the such character

I've watched Lael since 2018 and I have to say, I respect the decision to move on from being a youtuber to a fulltime musician. The way she's trying to grow her fanbase is just not it. Lying, making up fake stories, etc. I'm dissapointed. I'm still gonna watch her music videos and everything because she actually makes really good music

To the point of her making depressed music, music is an outlet for a lot of people to put how they feel into an art form. It can be very therapeutic so it makes sense that writing music about what she’s going through would make her “happy.”

I wonder if when she quit RU-vid, she lost a lot of money because she lost her main income stream. Her plan could have been to try and become a musician and make money that way. But, it took longer than expected and funds started to dry up (at least compared to the cash she was bringing in before). She might genuinely be banking on the success of her first few songs to make some cash again and can’t afford to wait for herself to blow up later down the line.

I only heard of her existence from this video, but after listening to her song 'im all alone' I was so impressed by her voice and her sound. I just wish she went a different route to get her music out there and I agree in saying that putting other people down to uplift herself and gain success, is not the way to go. I do hope she turns this around because after hearing some of her other songs, I like the sound of those as well and would love to support her as an artist, however, her personality and character make it difficult for me to do so morally.

Love that this isn't solely a vid bashing someone and that you're actually giving reasonable criticism and advice as to what she could do to make make her situation better. Shows that you're not trying to solely make vids off of negativity. 👌🏼

I remember my first and only introduction to this chick was one of those videos saying her life sucks and i immediately said shut up you spoiled brat and forgot about her. It was 100% obvious what she was doing automatically.

Need more videos like this. I like how he’s not just shutting on her but he’s legitimately giving her good advice and I really hope she takes it because otherwise she’s going to ruin her whole career, it’s not too late to apologize and then things around. I know everyone feels like they need a tragic backstory but at some point she just gotta accept she’s a rich white girl living in an expensive part of an already expensive country. Because chances are even before her success she had a better life than 99% of people difference now is her life is better than 99.9%.
