No news to me. I was in a similar position back in the 80's, when a karate expert I was arresting screwed my neck and back up for life. But the city never paid a damn thing on it. A suburb of Houston. I later retired from another department, but during that first year after the event the Chief looked after me, kept me on light duty so I had a salary, and stood between me and that crappy bunch of people that ran that little fiefdom who would have fired me just to not have to see me. They disliked me at best, because I was a Vietnam combat veteran and was an aggressive, proactive officer. It wasn't but a few years until I went to a larger organization and we were all happier.
