A rather long format, against the current of the "standards" of RU-vid, but I wanted to make feel the atmosphere of our Envolées du sud-ouest and then I don’t care about the standards, let’s say it all. But let’s talk a little technical. The characteristics of the airstrip are given in the video, I add that it is a private place that requires the authorization of the owner, unfortunately absent that day, but which was represented by his neighbor and his adorable family. A problem on our new wheel fairings appeared that required a bit of tooling that the nice neighbor promptly went to look for at home. He was thanked by a ride in Husky, in front of the worried look of his two daughters. Thank you to these lovely people.
The two laps of the video, we should rather say "loops" since we take off in one direction to land in the other, are carried out at low altitude (100 ft), not to lengthen the trajectory unnecessarily and also because it is still more fun. It is very difficult to approach on a 5% classic slope for the good reason that the track is only seen very late, which makes the charm of this terrain. That’s why I fly a rather flat approach, so as not to risk being too long. A late go-around is strictly prohibited because of the HT line and trees on the opposite runway threshold. The energy management on this curved trajectory that makes us enter this funnel, with no other option than to land the plane is enjoyable. I experienced my first landing here a few years ago as a deflowering !
Not trying to land in Lagarde by north wind, even in microlight, some tried and stopped against the barrier at the end. The ascent of the ground just before the track then produces an ascendance that gives you a boost of energy with consequences difficult to control.
For the less adventurous, the approach can be driven in the axis, but on a steep slope, more than 5% while passing over a pylon, but the plane must allow it and it is still less fun. At the end of the video, the landing of the Swiss Ambassador (Jodel aircraft) without flaps of my friend Alex (cdb Easy) is a marvel of piloting skills.
