Hi guys today I’m in obalende Lagos Nigeria and I will be taking you guys to the Obalende under-bridge. For those that knows this place and are familiar with the terrain. Obalende under bridge houses a lot of things that should be within a city as the place is know for all sort of dangerous activities. But recently the Lagos state government through the ministry of environment and water resources began clearing some of the under bridges the first one being at Ijora olopa and Obalende being the second place. One thing I will say and a lot of people will agree with me is that the commissioner of environment and water resources in Lagos state honorable commissioner Tokunbo Wahaba is doing a lot in putting some sanity back in Lagos most especially on the environment. hope the tempo will be sustain.

I totally support this. Lagos shouldn't be for everyone to want to live. It is not by force to live in Lagos if you can not live decently or afford it. The same people when abroad would be sending pictures of beautiful places. Meanwhile, the same place in their countries are full of anti-social behaviours.

They should turn the area into a green zone.... garden for people to relax in nature right in the middle of the central business district.......or a world class designed tourist attraction...

@@touskinhouskin most major cities in the world have designated green zones, it beautifies the environment, helps with climate change by releasing oxygen into the air which cools it, improves air quality etc. A mega city is not about big fancy skyscrapers, you need organised building plans, green spaces, good public transportation system etc. The state govt is on the right part, this is what many people have been pushing for... Not everyone should be in Lagos, there are other towns and cities in Nigeria to seek opportunities.

@@touskinhouskin OGA! planting trees and making places integrate greenery into the environment literally makes it desirable and nice to look at nau, what are you talking about? you will go to america now and start posting on your status about how the place is fine, while the green in nigeria literally signifies agriculture and greenery with our fertile soils, yet you are complaining because someone is suggesting we add plants to out environments, ah ah

They should do something about the drainage too….the drainage is really polluted with waste And to add to this….if the state want to turn it into a park, there should be a strict protocol cause if the govt isn’t strict, those guys will come back again and mess that place up

One thing we should all remember as Nigerians is that having beautiful cities is hard work. All European cities we love to use as example are very strict with squatters and we as communal Africans would call it wickedness to the poor. So it is either we enforce clean and beautiful cities or we accept that we are kind and stop comparing our cities with European cities.

Good job LASG. There is no country in the world where under the bridge and surrounding areas become a refuse dump, a market, living quarters, etc. Please clean it up, and turn it into a park or amusement park. But also find alternatives for the people displaced. Now they have come to Lagos from all over the country, they have to survive somehow

Great job and kudos to the Lagos state government in its ongoing determined efforts to rid the city of filth and ramshackle shanties and general environmental degradation all over the city that constitute terrible eyesores, giving the city a very bad image indeed both internally and externally. As the foremost city in Nigeria, indeed Africa, what happens in Lagos reflects on the nation and the continent as a whole, either negatively or positively as the case may be. Lagos is the Pride of Nigeria. The massive infrastructure development in Lagos must, therefore, be complemented by robust environmental development and aesthetics of similar scale such as massive tree planting, natural parks, playgrounds and amusement parks, and even libraries to positively engage and impact the youths just to mention but a few. With that said, the welfare of the displaced people ought to be taken into serious consideration as well, with a view to integrating, transitioning and transforming them into productive members of society contributing their individual quotas to the development of the state and country in general. Lagos is a pacesetter and one hopes there's a masterplan already developed and in place before the commencement of the demolition exercise, which hopefully, is just the beginning of the implementation of a comprehensive and holistic masterplan.

We are scared to take a walk in Lagos, it doesn't matter what time of day. A city that cares about it's people should have never, I repeat never allow such eyesore in the first place. They should also take all those danfo buses to the scrap yard. Lagos is disorganized and nothing to write home about until they start doing things like this.

If Obalende can be like this then anything is possible in Lagos😂. Kudos to LASG and Environmental/Sanitation team. (MOE) It’s still in its crude state, hopefully work continues as miscreants can be seen lurking around the area waiting for the slightest moment to come back once they sense work is no longer going on. LAMATA intends to build a cable car rail. Possibly, a modern bus terminal just like what we have in Oshodi and are modern car park would be ideal for this space… Welldone @iamgbolahan

The flip side of development is decay. If you don't develop, decay will occur. So good to clean that space, but they should not live a vacuum they most use it for something. How about the largest garden in Nigeria/West Africa/Africa? make man dream na.

Thanks for the video. My God, look at the massive land spaces occupied by miscreants in Obalende. These are prime lands that can be used for train station, commercial highrise offices with parks. In Holland spaces like these are fully utilised. The governor needs to visit Amsterdam, Rotterdam as case study. So many urban spaces in Lagos state left to miscreants. I am happy with environment commissioner Tokunboh Wahab for his foresight and determination to get thing done.
