Lai Ching-Te keeps talking about democracy, but what he really means is Western-style liberal democracy based on multiparty elections. This model of democracy has proven to be a failure. We can see the terrible results in America, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. All of these countries are struggling at both the economic and social levels. Meanwhile, China is doing very well thanks to its model of democracy based on meritocracy and consultation with the people. If Lai Ching-Te wants democracy, he should prefer the Chinese model, not the failed model that is damaging Taiwan.
