Lake Colac, Red Rock and Lake Corangamite 

The picturesque town of Colac sits adjacent to its own lake. Free camping at Meredith Campground is well worth it and only 10 minutes out of town. If you want to hit the 4wd tracks in the Otway's you can reach those in a little over 20 minutes. We spent a few days taking in Colac and surrounds, including the stunning view from Red Rock and the peaceful (feel the serenity) Lake Corangamite. All this within a 90 minute drive of Melbourne. And yes, you can get a decent cup of coffee.
