I thought the name came from the fact it is an old coaching road (you youngsters might not realise that the M6 was not always there) rather than an old railway goods carriage

Best piece of advice about how to hold on to the steering wheel when off road… keep the thumbs clear and the grip loose. As you say, many have found out the hard way that the wheel will happily break your thumbs in an instant if you’ve got a death grip on it. A buddy told me that when I first started wheeling and it always stuck with me 👌

The rusty wagon you saw was a pre 1960s railway goods wagon. When containers arrived and local freight moved to the roads these old goods wagons became redundant were sold off and used for agriculture. They crop up all over the place but they are rusting away these days and won’t be around beyond the next decade or so

When you said for anybody new do it in reverse I was thinking christ imagine reversing the whole way hahaha sometimes I can be a tool. Looks like a great wee route though might have to give that one a go this year!
