In early June 2023, Neil returns to Buttermere, one of the best places to visit in the Lake District, on a stunningly bright, dry, day, to walk anti-clockwise around the lake itself, a walk of around 4.5 miles.
Check out the route here: explore.osmaps.com/route/2090...
On such a bright day, the views are unusually good, looking up to Fleetwith Pike and Haystacks ( • Lake District Walks | ... ) at one end, the Buttermere Fells ( • Lake District Walks | ... ) to one side, and the Newlands round ( • Lake District Walks | ... ) to the other.
As mentioned in the film, this is also where Tom Cruise filmed some of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning, in what turns out to be the final scene of Part One.

Great vlog as per! I tried the Ullswater way this weekend from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge as per video of of your Ullswater way video, but it beat me 😢 I had to get catch a steamer from Howtown. This Buttermere loop looks more like my current fitness level! Looking forward to giving it a try

@LakeDistrictFilms Год назад
Thank you! The great thing about the Ullswater way is the number of bits you can easily break it into (plus you get a ride on the steamer!). This walk is a great little round - hope you enjoy it. Let us know how you get on. All the best

I did the same walk in April during a stay in Ambleside and it is a beautiful with stunning views. So good that i even had one of my images appear on Flickr Explore which really made my day and shows what you can do with no talent but great views. Keep up the good work Neil 👍👍

Hi. Me again. I love your videos Neil. Is this do-able in a powered off road wheelchair set up? Thanks!
@LakeDistrictFilms
@LakeDistrictFilms 11 месяцев назад
Thanks, David! Maybe others can confirm, but I think that it's passable from the beginning (heading anti-clockwise) to around Crag Wood (although it might be a little tight just south of Muddock Crags). After that is the rocky stretch, which is around Dalegatth, but there is a path off to the right at this point, heading towards Kirk Close, which might be a way of avoiding it. Thanks again.

Beautiful vid! Also two for two as i will be taking my family on this walk when I'm up there in a few weeks. Other than Lattrig do you know of any Wainwright's that you could take a Grandmother up? She did Lattrig last year and would love to do another this year but she isn't great mobility wise.
@LakeDistrictFilms
@LakeDistrictFilms Год назад
Thank you! Latrigg is definitely the easiest Wainwright for people with mobility issues, although Walla Crag from Castlerigg, with its views over Keswick and Derwentwater might just be doable, although nowhere near as level as Latrigg. Otherwise, Binsey isn’t bad, but again not a level walk. Might be worth having a look at Orrest Head - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Sg9FmGD2Va8.html - which is a lovely walk, and since we did it, the LDNPA have completed the wheelchair-accessible path all the way to the top. Hope that’s if some use, and that you have a lovely trip. All the best.

How long the walk took ? Thinking to go this summer . Is it safe and easy to find ??
@LakeDistrictFilms
@LakeDistrictFilms 2 месяца назад
It's probably about an hour and a half to two hours (depending on speed). It's pretty safe, with just one section where it's a little rocky, but otherwise it's well signposted and easy to follow. The LDNPA guide to the route is here: www.lakedistrict.gov.uk/visiting/things-to-do/walking/routes-and-maps/routes-and-maps2/map-1

Hi would you recommend this for a family with a toddler who completely refuses to go in a child back carrier. We’re contemplating bringing a buggy that’s good on uneven terrain.
@LakeDistrictFilms
@LakeDistrictFilms 4 месяца назад
It’s probably a good walk for a toddler - largely flat and there’s a nice “beach” or two for paddling/rock splashing. There’s only one area, really, where the rocks are a bit uneven - near the start of the return leg in the film - but otherwise it’s largely plain sailing. Hope you have a good day for it and enjoy! Let us know how you get on.

It's Buttermere water not lake,there's only 1 lake up there do u no ?
@LakeDistrictFilms
@LakeDistrictFilms 3 месяца назад
It’s actually just Buttermere (“mere” meaning lake) although the next lake, Crummock Water is a water. The title of the film refers to a lake walk around Buttermere, rather than calling Buttermere, Buttermere Lake, and yes, Bassenthwaite Lake is the only lake in the Lake District. All rather confusing, really!
