Lake Is Shrinking at an Alarming Rate

A lake in the American southwest is shrinking rapidly. Arizona’s Lake Powell is now only 32% full. “The status of the lake today is not a great one,” Bob Martin, from the US Bureau of Reclamation told KPHO meteorologist April Warnecke. Years of drought have depleted the lake, and water levels are lower than they’ve ever been. “As we get further into the drought, the more serious it becomes for everybody,” said Martin. #InsideEdition

I visited Lake Powell in the mid-90's and it was at high levels then. I was shocked and dismayed to see these pictures. They need to suspend all recreational vehicles in the lake until further notice. "But that'll hurt our tourism," they'll cry. Yeah, it will - but there may not be any Lake Powell in a couple of years. I know folks will get mad about this, but the SW United States is a major contributor to climate change. Too many people living along the west coast abusing the water supply they DO have, just so they can have "green grass" in their desert communities. We've visited NM, CA, AZ, UT, NV, CO and they waste their water like crazy. They flood their sports fields each night with tremendous amounts of water. Vegas does the same thing with their golf courses. We visited Santa Fe, NM and all their creeks, streams, rivers were just dirt. We were driving to Hoover Dam and were shocked to see how low Lake Mead was - the boat ramp was almost a mile long until it reached the lake. Right next to Lake Mead was a small community called Henderson. It had lush lawns, green palm trees and bushes - it was an oasis next to a moon scape. It's the DESERT, people!!! There's supposed to be sand, rocks and little vegetation. Don't move there from the Midwest or East Coast and think you can make it look "just like home" because you can't. We live in NE Ohio and don't have these arid conditions - at least not yet. BUT I would never waste water as much as these people do! Believe me, if I could send you some of our rainfall I'd gladly do it - but only if it's used RESPONSIBLY.

0:33 After 20 plus years of drought. We've already had so many years to fix what has been broken. It's gotten so bad that now we have to fix things immediately. Yikes.

In CA as well. The thing is housing continues to be built at a rapid rate without water considerations ornew dams being built. Scary how much money drives these cities to grow. Same can be said for the electrical consumption. Something needs to be done. The water cannot support the growing people. Something's is going to give soon if nothing is done.
