My dad and I hiked this back in 1985. They views are truly amazing and not too bad of a hike if you're in fairly decent shape. Be sure to check weather (no smart phones back then), as we had a very heavy hailstorm that landed on us on the way back to the ski basin. One of my favorite memories for sure!
I love my beautiful New Mexico❤ so many people think it's all dry desert but we have such beautiful mountains too! It's my dream to hike up to this lovely lake soon!
Hey, my husband did this hike and camped at the lake 2 nights last Sept. It is freezing up there at night, in the 30s-40s even in summer. Yes, you can car camp or tent camp up at the ski area parking lot area.
Yes! Like Robin said, you can camp in the parking lot , backpack to the lake or find a good spot anywhere in between! Elevation will be anywhere between 10k-12k so be ready for cold nights anytime of year
