Lake Michigan King Salmon July 2021(Baileys Harbor)

We went to Lake Michigan for a weekend in early July after seeing calm winds in the forecast, are were fortunate enough to find a few big ones. This is still a new concept to us, and we are still learning how to find, target and catch Lake Michigan King Salmon. Most of our kings came on a SWR rig with a Mean Jeans spoon. Being in a small boat, it helps to go to Door County to target salmon, as we are able to also bring our walleye and bass gear in case the weather turns, and we can still fish the Green Bay Side if waves get to big. For this trip, we used Baileys Harbor as our launch point. Hopefully we can make it back out one more time this year, as having salmon screaming drag in the Midwest is definitely becoming addicting.

This is a bucket list trip of mine. You caught some amazing steelhead and Kings. I'm hoping to make it out there next summer. Great video.

Thank you. Still learning to fish Lake Michigan, it is quite the learning curve, but it is a blast. Hoping to make one more trip in a few weeks if weather permits to try to jig for them!

Awsome! Made me nostalgic since this is the first year I didn't take my family and friends to baileys harbor. I caught my 30lbs king just north of the bell bouy in 100fow.

@@earlybirdadventures8677 I have never done it in the fall, but might have to add it to the list. We fished the Apostles last weekend and it was the best lake trout fishing of my life.

You guys had a successful trip! I’ve tried to fish Lake Michigan twice, both times were botched from weather! Need more time when I go there so I can spend a few days there incase of inclement weather.

This was our first year we got to fish the whole time. We do like going to Door County so we can fish Sturgeon Bay for bass and walleyes if needed, but thankful the weather gave us a gift this year!

Thanks! It’s fun to learn something new and I’m not sure there is a freshwater bite better than a dipsey getting smashed and peeling 400 feet of line in one run.

You do an excellent job of editing. Even better job of catching fish with little lake Michigan experience. I would either pivot your pole holders on your downrigger rods out or add a couple of pole holders so you have more room to net. At the end of the video it sounded like you were at 10 fish and still fishing. That could be a problem if the DNR stopped you. For your fellow Lake Michigan Anglers comments on how far down cold water is found on your Fish Hawk and what is your speed at the ball. Overtime you’ll find that getting the right angle in the water is like magic some days. Best of luck.
