Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Tributary Fishing. River Monster Broke My Rod! Salmon Acrobatics

In this episode I explored a Lake Ontario tributary searching for salmon and trout. There were some nice videos of salmon running and jumping. Took me a while to dial in my technique as I was not too experienced but with the help of some hard lessons and help from fellow anglers, I was able to have a small measure of success. Hope you will like this one.
In the video I referenced a previous smallmouth and largemouth bass trip

Wow always a circus this time of the year. When you graduate from fishing salmon in the river, fish for salmon at the mouth in earlier months and steelhead in the river. Salmon are just spooked swimming around with the clowns running around the river. I would say at least 50% of the time, they are getting snagged or flossed. You got 3ft of water with 6 guys running lines down to a clear pool of salmon. 🤣 Just my thought. Been there done that.

One tip: Keep your hands on the rod's handle, not up on the rod itself... Good way to hear it go SNAP LOL Nice video! Hang in there, you'll get the hang of it.

I have landed 20lbers on 6lb leader, it’s enough, u can’t horse them depending on the rod you use. You don’t need roe. Egg imitations, Wolly buggers, yarn, pink worms are the staple, I typically use flies and can have 30 hookups in 5 hours, might land 50-60% with only a few snags. Casting with spinners and wide wobbling crankbaits in deeper pools is another option. Good luck, u will figure it out quickly.

Great tips as usual. I feel like my new rod is much stronger and I can trust it more too. Getting a better feel each time out.

Awesome man, just wet your hands next time when handling trout. Tight lines

You need to keep your rod up! point it to the sky! also, let it run when it needs to. Can't horse them in even with 10# leader. If you want to get rid of a snagged fish, simply point the rod directly at the fish and stop the reel from spinning. All the load will be taken on the leader and more often than not the hook will come loose without breaking off. Also, try a much longer leader! I use a 4-5 foot leader minimum without any weight on it. let the lure lead the way in the water.

Yes, I am seeing that being done by others. Thanks for the tips!

Hey man, if you can get a 13 foot rod, run a mainline with a 10 pound leader then you will get bites. Make sure to have the leader more than 2 feet. I put too little earlier and the fish snapped it.
@thehiddenangler9083
@thehiddenangler9083 2 года назад
A simple rod for beginners is a 9 foot medium Fenwick salmon rod not centrepin try to avoid it till you get the hang of fighting them with a spinning reel even baitcasters work too as long as it's 8-11 feet medium-medium heavy they should work fine then use 15 pound main line with a 10 pound leader if you want to use leaders you can get salmon on just 15 pound test but the lighter the better. Get a few split shots to a float depending on depth you go deeper or lower. The hook you will need is a size 8 Gamakatzu hook
