With all the indescribable and wondrous joy music has brought me in this life, the emotion Rachael and this band evoke from me has reached a level I thought not possible.
Every once in a while, a band comes along that is so much greater than the sum of their parts, defies easy definition, and reminds us how fantastic and fun music can be. And man o' man are they IT. Congrats you guys, on the sudden fame. You deserve every inch of it. Stay true to yourselves and each other, and you'll always own your destiny. I'm only sad that I won't be seeing you at Blue Heron this year! Friday night last year was amazing. Thanks for the memory, and looking fwd to PA Sat night!
I'm speechless. Rachael's vocal is indescribable. And Bridget's bass is off the hook, the last 45 seconds are so fun to watch as she hammers that thing with near-full arms swings and awesome riffs. I LOVE these guys.
Fantastic song and performance. Great musicians all, and yet together they are something more. And they do it LIVE! Looking forward to seeing them in February.
Stellar version of this one. It always slays me the way Bridget sings "you'll know" at 3:20. Speaking of slaying, what happens right after (3:25-3:50) will do ok too.
Saw the group last night and I must admit, they are awsome and she has that stage charisma, and chops. If you have an opportunity to see them live, go, you will regret it is you miss the show!
you are correct, sir! Search for this one: "Lake Street Dive in the Studio: Rachael Price Sings "What I'm Doing Here" In One Complete Take". Prepare yourself... This makes may hair stand on end every time.
I cannot wait to see them live in NYC in May. I've been waiting for a while since someone first sent me their "I Want You Back" cover *last year* because I'm a known Jackson 5 fan. Yeah...been waiting *that* long. :)
This whole song reduces me to a whimpering, teary-eyed pile of jelly. Every time I watch it...which is nearly every day! And yeah, 3:25-3:40 IS insane. Amy Winehouse planted the seed...Fitz & The Tantrums, Chic Gamine and Lake Street Dive are reaping the harvest. REAL music (a la Motown / 60's & 70's Soul, etc.) is BACK, friends! And not a moment too soon...
ah man, LSD great and man oh man Rachael Price ... that break where she hits that long note and then takes it up ... Sunlight is a vilian when it takes away the night, indeed ...
and damn, damn few from my generation (I'm 62). I've been a huge fan of these guys since I discovered them a couple of months ago. BTW, Rachel has several jazz albums out that aren't bad either. Check it out if you're a jazz fan.
