every version of this by LSD on You Tube is just plain fun ! I can't tell you how good the bass player is....an acoustic, fretless upright bass is so hard to master---and she does!
Based on videos and recordings, Bonnie Rait never had the range and diversity to match Lake Street Dive talent. Other old hippies like Joni Mitchell or Sandy Denny I think would be a better comparison (even gravelly voiced Janice Joplin). The good girl gone bad Taylor Swift, on the other hand, and if she can ever get out of that ridiculous hipster mode (which built her wealth), I bet would do sensational R&B and jazz.
@@wlodell How you can possibly compare Bonnie Raitt and this girl is beyond me......theyre both doing brilliant jobs differently. Grow up and get some musical maturity! Music isn't a competition!
For DECADES I always thought the Kinks sang "... in her cut-throat voice ...". So it's actually "... in her dark brown voice ..." At 60 I actually learned something new.
LSD performed this last evening here in Blk Mtn, wNC. While I don't recall Rachel's preface exactly, it was like appropriate with HB2 and that we all s/b what we are.
Great cover ..... I just wish they would sing tastes like coca cola instead of cherry cola ..... which was forced on ray by BBC lawyers preventing "product placement"
It's a song about gender fluidity. That aside, it's pretty common for men to sing cover songs written from a woman's point of view and vice versa. It's not really a big deal.
