Man, if what I hear Dan needs to jump into the Lakers NOW. 5 years or more at $80m or more. They start to build the culture now in LA. Lebron is not winning again. He's 40. LMAO
The lakers have not cared too much about developing draft picks (besides Kobe) and have swung for the fences on stars, and it’s worked. Getting Shaq, pau gasol, lebron, AD, etc has brought 6 ships in 25 years
Why would Dan Hurley want to go to a team where the two most important players on the roster won’t listen to him and he’s going to be stuck with a D2-level talent on his roster just to make an AGING (aged) “star” happy enough to re-sign?
$100 million thats why (at least whats been reported). It doesn't matter if he gets fired after a season or two he is still getting the money, and can always go back to college of he really wants to
@@DEEiBe He walks all over all of his coaches. Coaches are only there to take the blame when LBJ fails. If LBJ respected Vogel, Frank would still be coaching the Lakers.
I’m glad to see the NBA addressing 2 of the issues that hurt the league a lot more than politics did by letting the game get more physical and keeping players on the same teams. Politics was just the final straw for a lot of fans. You can’t be boring AND political.
The way the lakers operate is so infuriating. They have the worst front office and ownership combo in the nba. They could hire an A+ coach or a C- coach and the results at the end of the season would be relatively the same. They’re unable to take advantage of being the “Lakers” media darlings, biggest fanbase, championship history, they have so much going for them but they always shoot themselves in the foot.
@@newagestudios408 “since 2018” what are you talking about😂 he played 76 out of 82 gams last year. Of the top 15 scorers last season he played the 3rd most games
@@devinsmart1547 clearly you can’t read.. he played 70 this year for the first time since 2018 which mean he’s missed basically 20+ games every year since 2018..you understand now?
@@sxz62 i hope not!! But it does.. as born & bred laker fan, I’d be very disappointed. They should focus on building a team after lebron. Then let his contract expire. Cold World!
The Lakers are looking long-term. No more short-term soluitons. No more instant championships with inferior players and a 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old injury-prone player.
Lakers are not a Dan Hurley guy. They don’t have that team or that trajectory right now. I would hire him to develop my young guys. Eventually when LeBron is gone, I hire Hurley. I hire from within.
@@blackcat4859Yes you do, sorry those are the rules! Jokic won, he was considered the best after that.. Not by winning MVP he didn’t win that last year.. He’s not the best! Get over it. Tatum or Luka will hold that crown now..
@@pleasedonttemptme5963 there are no rules here. It's about what you consider being the best. If it's who is the alpha on top of the mountain then yes, it's whoever won last. If it's who is actually the best then it's different as Chauncy Billups or Rip Hamilton weren't all of sudden the best player just because they won the title.
Call me skeptical, but it sounds like a leverage play from both sides. Dan Hurley is the seventh highest-paid coach in Division I basketball at $5 million per year, half of what Kansas' Bill Self makes. An offer from the Los Angeles Lakers would force Connecticut to give him a new contract with a big raise after winning back-to-back national championships. Meanwhile, reports of the Lakers operating as a mom-and-pop business (namely, Jeannie Buss surrounded by Kurt and Linda Rambis along with Rob Pelinka) with LeBron James and his sports agency having a significant influence have some people questioning the Lakers' commitment to winning. Reportedly interviewing a no-nonsense, successful coach like Hurley helps establish credibility that the Lakers' head coaching job is highly attractive and draws more than J.J. Redick.
I said this same thing yesterday! You won b2b chips and you're making almost half of Bill Self. Then we hear the lakers have interest but they include "massive contract offer" in the report. When have you ever heard that before someone even interviewed?? lol
I will believe this rumor or "news item" only when it is official that Hurley is the next Lakers coach. Otherwise, to me this is looks more as a PR spin that the Lakers top brass are placing to fool the public they are looking into the opposite direction of what their star player wants. The spin has begun with an item the other day saying that A. Davis prefers Borrego. I would not be surprised to find out tomorrow or in a few days that discussions with Hurley "suddenly fall out" and the Lakers are then relegated to choose JJ, which I believe has already been done. Again, until Hurley becomes the next coach, I dont believe such discussions are serious.
The Lakers need to get back to scouting and development of players as well as having a coach who wears emotions on his sleaves and keep the players accountable
The Lakers have already done that. They missed the playoffs for five straight years. The Lakers want to remain relevant. It doesn't matter how many very good players the Lakers draft. Without a superstar, there will be no championship.
Why in the world would Hurley even consider that awful job? Money? He has money. The Lakers can’t win-they’re way too old, not good enough, and not smart enough. Remember, these are the people who took Lonzo Ball #2 overall. The coach is just someone to blame.
uh... i like your sentiments but Lonzo Ball translated into AD and that paved for a 2020 NBA Title. Say what you want on that, the banner still hangs and counts. What was not smart was blowing up that championship team and listening to the cry baby star of the team to trade for westbrook. Keep in mind before injuries hurt they were dominating the suns who went on to the NBA finals. What they did in the summer of 2021 is tantamount to what they almost did in trading worthy and rambis in 86 after they lost to the rockets for Mark Aguirre and some picks. Jeannie's father and Jerry West resisted the calls to do that and they went on to win back to back. Vogel was the perfect coach for that team 2020-21 team and became the least equipped coach to handle westbrook lakers interation that soon came along with the pain we Lakers fans are still feeling now.
As crazy as it sounds, I was coming around to JJ Redick as the coach, as a Lakers fan. As I tell folks all the time, the NBA and college basketball are two completely different sports. The approach to the game is different (you don't see countless ball screens in college), the athletes in the NBA are much superior, the shooting is much superior. Heck, we just saw Dallas wipe out a 30 pt lead last night in a little over 10 minutes. That can't really happen in college. Dan Hurley is a very good coach, but so was Pitino, Carlesimo, Calipari, Billy Donovan, etc. It's hard at the next level and you don't have the luxury of trying to figure it out for 2-3 years in LA as Coach Ham just felt.
The amount of pressure that Dan is going to face is ridiculous. The Lakers are not a good drafting team and Dan is going to be forced to coach LeCorn and Bronny James. You heard me, LeCorn and BRONNY JAMES!!! I know you miserable Lakers fans will have something to say but the Lakers are not a good situation to walk into. If I'm Dan I will stay put at UCONN or take another coaching job somewhere else with more patience and a chance to build an actual competitive team through the draft.
Dan Hurley strikes me as a big hype case. No eye contact, while injecting a subtle brag, and bargaining schtich. The guy has a losing record, despite the NCAA repeat. The guy would have failed spectacularly at the NBA level, and especially with the Lakers team.
Let us not forget that the Lakers and all of Los Angeles is Image Based and JJ would fit that image like he was Pat Riley Jr. Plus like you said he's been around the NBA game a lot but don't think that image doesn't matter because you damn good and well it does. Would the fact that Lebron and JJ are good friends bigger other players ? Lol Like it did when Magic and Jerry Buss were buddies. Either one of these guys are super solid candidates and would get us going in the right direction. JJ would prob get us there a little quicker. Sounds like LJ is choosing the coach as much as anyone else. Whatever, as long as we win!!!
Lebron and AD led Lakers aren't going to win a second title. Love them both but it's just facts. So I would rather a slow and deliberate rebuild with a brilliant coach like Hurley, for long term success like we did in the Pat Riley and Phil Jackson years.
If he's a slow build guy that's just the chips he's been dealt Lakers have the ability to sign anybody to a supermax contract in free agency.Rob Pelinka is already known for good trades they can speed up the process for Dan he can just focus on elite coaching at the highest level.
College dominance normally don't carry over to immediate professional impact or even success. Players make way more and have more power. Also certain franchises have unreasonable expectations, and losing isn't a option. This is a bad hire for the Lakers
For you casuals, and I’m a casual lakers supporter and even I can recognize the following but name the last superstar that the lakers drafted and developed into a superstar? Now ask yourselves, how long ago was that? Lakers are not good at developing talent. They can find god role players but can’t develop stars like other teams.
Jokic is not the best and Luka is not the 2nd best you find away to add Donavan Mitchell/Trey Young/Dejonte Murray type player and their right back in the running
He'd be leaving a program that he helped solidly as well. Not an easy thing for Coach Hurley to do I might add. Lakers would provide a solid pay day though and that is something to always take into consideration.
I feel like Dan Hurley will turn the job down. The lakers are a massive project and turning them around will take years. It would be better when Lebron is retired and not on the team any longer and when you can trade AD for picks and start over. If I was him I would prefer a clean slate so that he can create the team HE wants to coach. I dont want to coach lebron
Enough with the talk of the west being packed. The western playoff had 2 series that was close, and all the other series were not even competitive. And looks like Celtics are gonna sweep the Mavs or at worst win 4-1.
You can hire the best coach to ever exist, they will tank. Lebum should just get his ownership stake in the Lakers and retire, then fire the gm and the coach and do the Jackie Moon, as a p/t player
The lakers need to move past lebron. LeBron has done some great things in his career and he won one for the lakers but heres the thing there building a roster around a guy thats past his prime. They need to let him retire or walk and focus on the next star weather its the draft or free agency. Dan Hurley is an amazing coach and if lebron goes and turns a new chapter the lakers will be back.
lakers looking in the mirror and see next year end of lebrons run. they can win 35 games with him on the team no matter what. maybe they bring Dan on a stop gap year. but lebrons done, either leaving this season or let lakers know this is his final run and getting them through to the next generation
I don't understand why you'd leave for the NBA, especially LA. That organization hasn't been run well since the 2000s, they have no draft picks, and that roster has 0 depth. Go back to UCON where you'll almost always be top dog and not have your reputation ruined.
Lakers currently have a 1st round draft pick in this year’s draft, and three more tradeable first round picks through 2031. They also have the allure of the Los Angeles market (which produces tons of NBA players) and a championship as recent as 2020. Don’t disregard the Laker franchise.
This guy in LA is a terrible fit. The team is on the downtrend and you throw this guy in there he'll get fired in 3 years and he'll be considered a "flop" and probably ruin his career. No thanks. He needs to be on a younger ascending team similar to Orlando or Houston.
Who tf cares about a colllege 3 peat? It's not even half as good as euroleague. The guy literally can start his NBA carreer, meanwhile they say he can do 3peat in college. Wow, what an achievment worthy for an NBA championship run. The guy already has 2 championships, he doesn't need to 3peat.
It's like when Robert Kraft wanted leverage (For a new stadium) and told Hartford, CT he might move the Patriots to Hartford. Sad part was that so many people believed it. LOL
I can see a future where they get neither & they are forced into hiring some unknown name within the organisation to be the coach knowing that A.D & James aren't going anywhere & neither have a overwhelming desire to win a chip really & the fans are still going & watching so fans don't care about a chip so there's no real pressure to have a legit coach or big name sign on as "coach"
Angel is not that good, otherwise she would have been top 2 pick. Angel is talented but her media presence is better than her game. I mean her PR is one of the best in the WNBA
@@marcusgarvey6231you’re going to be trash for years after he leaves. Lakers are a terrible organization. They had the worst record in the NBA for like the previous 7 seasons before LeBron got there. Ham killed the team morale with his crazy lineups . He didn’t run it back the same way they did when the went to the western finals . That’s why he lost the locker room .
