I think that ebony neck on the Lakland is influencing the tone - increased brightness over the Bartolini system Rosewood neck. Loved the meaty organic sound of the Barts more. but i am sure the different preamps also effect the sound. So you have Lakand pickup, lakland pre, ebony neck VERSUS Bartolini Pickup, Bartolini pre amp and Rosewood neck. The sound differences are not - Night and Day - differences but I do prefer the Bartolini system as the Lakland does sound a little thinner.
I think it would be even more accurately compared if the basses were more similar(model, fingerboard ,body woods)... Still a great sounding clip that gives you an idea of how they sound!!! 🤘🏾🤘🏾
both sound good but I actually like the lakland better than the barts.. funny I feel the same way when it comes to single coils too. I put some Aguilar hum cancelling singles into a jazz bass of mine, but when I got my Lakland DJ5, the single coils in it just blew the aguilars out of the water... lakland makes good stuff.
I have 2 5502s w the Lak/ Hanson set up. I prefer the Lak/ Hanson pups/ pre. Barts sound too "poofy" to my ears. I put a Bart in my MM 5 string and I made it sound worse. Can it be better, of course. The Laks are missing some aggressive highs, but for what I'm doing, they are fine. I set my tone to the room and I can always get distinct, usable tones. Just my opinion.
Got both. LH-3 is great, but the barts are Stellar. More versatile, and tone shape better. Round and full to thunderous and colorful. Both great, barts are better imho
I have done this and all I can say is get a BassMods or Audere preamp if you have a 55-02 and then you don't need to change pickups unless you want to. The stock preamp sucks. A 55-01 has a better sound stock but that's an MK1 setup.
@@PastorReggie1981 I think that's the cheapest way out because the Lakeland preamp did not perform well with the Bartolini's that I put in my 55-02. I would go with EMG Hz pickups which work well active or passive and they have more character than Bartolini pickups. Throw out those Lakland pickups and preamp.
