Mark, Laksa Johor actually uses spaghetti! The origin was back then around 1900s if I'm not mistaken when Sultan Johor at that time loved spaghetti after he travelled to Italy and when he came back, he asked the chef to create a local dish using spaghetti. So that's how Laksa Johor was born!
Laksa Johor is similar to Laksa Singapura... except Laksa Singapura(malay style) uses real Laksa noodle... as in the thick rice noodles.... my fav food is Laksa....
Hi Mark. Anthony Bourdain said the same thing about that Sarawak Laksa in his Travel Show " No Reservations" years ago. I have tried that Sarawak Laksa before when I travelled to a city called Kuching, the state capital of Sarawak in Borneo Malaysia. And I'd rate the Sarawak Laksa as my absolute favourite among all the different varieties of Laksa that I've tried from the different states in Malaysia. Anthony Bourdain is currently back in Kuching City, Sarawak filming his CNN "Parts Unknown" till June 3rd 2015 and he's back for that Sarawak Laksa according to his Facebook & Twitter posts. Mark, it'd be fantastic to see Anthony Bourdain bump into you, just like how Andrew Zimmern of Bizzare Foods bumped into Kyle Le in Vietnam!
i shd go there one day.... so far my fav is Assam Laksa... which is Penang Laksa.... but living in Singapore...i'm used to Laksa Singapura(Singapore Malay Laksa - malay style) its different from the chinese style laksa...
I'm from Kuching, S'wak but if you ask around, the one that Mr.Bourdain had probably won't be the top of their list (certainly not mine). If you got a chance to come to Kch again, try Poh Lam (better knaown as Chong Choon) laksa or Ah Mui (better known as Foody Goody) laksa.
I loooooooooooove penang laksa!!!!! Whenever I am in penang...I just Cannot get enough of it. I love how light it taste on my palate and I can eat it more than a bowl without that bloaty feeling when one have thick gravy laksa. Just my preference.
I so look forward to your travels of those exotic places, and because you are so personable it's easy to love your videos. thank you for all the hard work it's appreciated.
Hi Mark!! Big thumbs up to you and the wife. Been watching most of your videos and must say I'm really enjoying your trip to langkawi.. Will surely visit it soon as it looks awesome and exiting!!!
I am watching this series after 2 years of release. I thought I have seen all videos of mark. . how come I missed this series. ... BTW it's sooooo good..

Mark and Ying, Great video and enjoyed the review of the Laksa. They were all different and interesting. Will have to try and make Laksa. Looked amazing. Oh yes, I would try the jet ski!
Hi Mark, Thank you for the great media we enjoy every moment with you. You have inspired us to make to plan a trip to Malaysia 2016. We are looking forward to your next addition. Kind regards Cornelius
the dessert you ate after laksa is called 'Puding Raja'. Until today, the pudding is served as dessert during Pahang's royal ceremonial banquet, also sometimes in local weddings. Its basically made of banana, egg, milk and some fruits😉
Wow! You polished off that bowl of Laksa Sarawak almost without stopping to film it! It looked amazing. Great series from Langkawi...makes me want to travel there, although I am still holding out for vegetarian food. The beaches and the people are beautiful. Thank-you!
Not sure why but I find watching you eat all these delicious foods relaxing haha. I would love to go to a laksa festival, it's one of my favourite dishes!
Hi Mark! My hubby and I never missed an episode of your vlogs, they're all awesome sumptuous, mouth watering & very informative... we love it a lot! It's so nice to see on this video you wore a new shirt, looks good on you! Among the food & travel vloggers, you're the most amazing & the greatest, but we also believe you need to take care of your personality as well... just a piece of advice. By the way, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS on your vlog with Andrew Zimmern (whose show Bizarre Foods, we also love!), you deserved it...woohoo! We hope and pray you'll be recognized too by Anthony Bourdain. Kudos to you & Ying! :)
Your recent 3 videos in Langkawi and trying Malaysian dishes just made me love not just what you're doing but love you yourself more and more! I always welcome you to our country. Guess this is your second time in Malaysia where your first was eating that nasi campur, roti canai, nasi lemak, teh tarik, and rice with Indian curry at Indian restaurant in KL? Good job Wiens. By the way, one of the chefs who judged the Festival was one of Malaysian famous celebrity chef, named Chef Jo, bald head with white beard and 50's look, yeah that one! Well just trying to say you're so lucky and having invited to such Fest is a quite big significant as the name Migrationology.com and Mark Wiens show that You.Are.To.Grow.More.Famous. after this. After all, good job, Wiens!
Hi Mark: I am really enjoying your current trip!! I love the jet ski tour, the footage was amazing and looked like so much fun. Be very careful because of the sunburn you might receive being out in all that open sea....and the noodles dishes made my mouth water....lol. What a great time!!!
Wow, that sweet pudding You ate was originated from Pekan district in pahang state. in Malay we called it as puding raja, which means the king's pudding. Long ago, only the king's and his related families can eat the pudding. Quite difficult to make one of it.
Hi Mark, really glad you had some of the different Laksa, especially the Sarawak Laksa. Please do make your way down to Kuching Sarawak to have some of the best Kuching Sarawak Laksa and Kolo Mee. You can try Chong Choon Cafe in the middle of Kuching Town, it has one of the best Laksa in Kuching.

I don’t travel for food a lot. I live vicariously through mark and ying. I’d love for you to make shirts that say “I watch mark travel for food”. I’d definitely buy that!
Dang the fangs on that monkey! I absolutely love your videos, they are so informative. When you show dishes I always google it and look for the recipe, the Laksa Sarawak is one of them.... Nom, noms!
Hey Mark ... I'm really enjoying the new video blogs ... It appears as if you have moved up a notch on your budget (restaurants and optional diversions). Good going. Bud.
On a different platform as well (television). He is one of the few people out there who is genuinely interesting, respectful of all cultures and informative. A lot of the times documentary film makers end up exoticising countries and fail to capture the real essence of the culture. But Mark and his wife are really wonderful at capturing the reality by simply being nice and getting to know local people. Keep up the good work.
wow that is awesome ,this is the trip i like to have it some day.thank you and i been follow you trip every day i hope i will go to Thailand in December.and i migt stay for 3 months
You should try laksa kedah.. The broth itself is thicker than the others. My favourite laksa in malaysia: 1 - Laksa Kedah 2 - Laksa Sarawak 3 - Laksa Johor
Thank you for uploading these videos so quickly! I always get excited whenever I see your vlogs up on my subscription feed :) great video! Looks like you guys are enjoying yourselves!
I have been watching your video for almost a week now and it's always making me hungry.. so I eat while watching your videos and it's ruining my diet! haha. just want to let you know you are both doing a great job! all the best to you and your wife. it's definitely a team effort. :)
hey mark, come to terengganu which is eastern malaysia.. there are many beautiful islands here and also traditional foods like keropok lekor, sata, ikan celup tepung, sotong celup tepung and many more.. you'll never regret.. trust me.. =D
evogardens Hey Jim, luckily we didn't fall off at a high speed! But we played around for a bit before going on the tour. I'm still dreaming of riding it!
Hello Mark, i really enjoy the videos here. I have never been to any of this places, but your videos make me craving to try these dishes. My name is Parvathy. I am from alleppy, kerala, the southern part of India. I dont know whether u have heard about our place. I really wish that u once come and taste and post some videos of our food. Alleppy famous for back waters, and yummy fish curries, duck roast etc etc..... :)
Mark responds to restaurant food with different zeal than street food which seems to include the culture more. Either food seems tasty but I do like the street level.
Mark wiens..u have to explore sarawak the island of borneo..there a tons of delicous food u have to try from our country sarawak..highly recommended for u..
The pudding, known as Puding Raja or King's Pudding, , originally belongs to Pahang Royal Menu during the reign of Sultan Abu Bakar, among His Highness many favorite dishes, which later became famous among the people of Pahang, esp in Pekan, the Royal Town.
For me, street food is the best food in Malaysia compared to food in high-end restaurant which is not always represent the Malaysian food that well. Anyway, its still an experience worth taking.
