Wow. It's not that he was wrong, it's that we were wrong in misunderstanding him. He is passively aggressively blaming all of us for thinking he said the wrong thing. Worst apology ever.
Anyone who follows La Liga would not be surprised by Tebas' actions, the guy loves talking and is more concerned about his personal image than boosting La Liga. In all honesty, he's been oddly quiet recently but it looks like he's back to form.
@@YD-jf7jethe rumours here in Spain is the royal family and the Catalonian government want him to step down as he's lack of action is causing Spain's chance for the world cup it's rumoured reff CEO also wants him out.
He's a problem yes, but it's Real Madrid and Barcelona's weight of power and influence holding the league back. If all clubs in the league were given a fairer level of compensation for league participation you would see a better product and a more competitive league. Yes some strides have been made to improve that, but we are talking about a secular period of time where accounts for most football clubs have shrunk relative to the 2 biggest clubs. That will take years to reverse and the clock has just started counting. The only thing that kept La Liga afloat for so long was that they had monopolised the 2 of the best players we've ever seen play the game.
@@thecountofmontecristo8280 Real Madrid and Barcelona have overwhelmingly been the best teams in Europe for the last two decades, have the worlds largest fanbases, most Balon D Or winners. Never mind the fact that their players took Spanish national team to it's golden age of winning three consecutive major titles. Yet somehow according to your logic they are holding the league back? Which club saved La ligas reputation last season? 🤦♂
This is the same situation as only being sorry because you got caught, not because you actually are. Tebas only apologized because everyone in the football community was standing with Vinicius. Anything other than an apology and some clear action taken, then he would have faced tons of more backlash. That apology was also a bit half assed lol.
7 people arrested till now, partial stadium closure for Valencia. For a club in Valencia's financial rut, that is a huge consequence. What La Liga needs to do is implement the QR code system Shaka explained Newcastle has. If you experience racial slurs during a match towards players, you can report your position and they will review footage etc.
Are you simple or what? If they start deducting points for this fans will start going to rival matches and get their points deducted every single game. Think before you write shiet like this
@@garyanderton The arrests are a start as is partial stadium closures. It’s a good start but I think in order to save La Liga and it’s future viability points deduction would be a more effective deterrent. La Liga can’t afford to be associated with racism. And the images I saw online shows hundreds, perhaps thousands in that one section shouting MONO/Monkey. Yet only 3 were arrested? 🤔
@@rmzidann Indeed more needs to be done. I saw a Spanish speaker say they were uttering tonto/stupid, not mono/monkey, but to me it sure sounded like the latter. The whole stand that was uttering those phrases consists of season ticket holders, so being closed off for 5 games should teach them a lesson - pain in the wallet.
He doesn't mean it. There is a lot at stake. Vini might have left Real Madrid and other black players might have followed suit. Mbappe and Bellingham might have thought twice, and without big players a club and a league are nothing. They just pressurized him to do so
When I heard his initial comments on what was done to Vini Jnr, I said to myself that this man must resign straight away because I felt he sought to blame Vini Jnr for not attending meetings instead of addressing this serious issue of racism in an organization of which he’s head…
I think he's just answered the public's question of whether there'll be a change in the way LaLiga is going to deal with racism from here onwards, and seems like the answer is 'no'....
Guys I’ve lived in Spain for 36 years since I was 2. My passport is Spanish. I love Spain but there’s this undertone of non violent racist mentality in the country where Spanish people just make stupid racist comments without thinking about how others might feel. It’s culturally built in. If you’re in an argument with someone for whatever reason, for instance on the road, it’s very easy for them to bring up race and say stuff like “go back to where you came from”. It’s non violent like I said but no one makes a big deal of things that are said and comments on Spanish media articles are criticising Vini for the attention he’s receiving rather than just admitting that the racist chants are wrong. It’s an attitude of “what about when Madrid fans insult our players?” I’m soooo happy this has finally come out for the rest of the world to see.
Thanks for sharing Sudeep, I recently got back from Madrid after spending 5 days there. Unfortunately I won’t be going back, i as a black man found the people rude and dismissive. I definitely believe there is an undercurrent of racism In Spanish society.
Brazil and especially black football players have brought so much prestige to La Liga. They should rather worship the floor they walk on. Your apology is not enough, Tebas. I wanna see tears of regret, actions following and sanctions. Take responsibility already
How come the punishent against valencia came right away, while we are still waiting for the verdict against valverde, were he hit an opponent after the game, and nothing has still happend with the espanyol fans that stormed the pitch against barca?
The opposition players had a part to play as well. You clearly see some of them siding with the fans behavior. The choking and the reaction from the keeper shows exactly what I mean.
Javi Tebas is only sorry because of the severe backlash of racism in La Liga. Not because he's admitting his mistake. No wonder La Liga ain't thriving like it did years ago.
I’ve witness a small group of fans scream racist chants in the stands, and most fans yell at them and start calling them racist bastards and they just shut up. But I’ve never heard a whole stadium screaming racist chants like that. Why do they hate this guy so much?
@@shadrachgeorge108 That’s the only logical reason😂 I’m fine with fans chanting at a player to get inside their head, but this is just off limits completely. Disgusting behavior
jeep, and now Valencia newspapers says everything is an invention from Real Madrid, and that Real Madrid has manipulated and misguided the opinion of people all around the world!! How about that??
As much as I dont like Tebas, he is the Koeman to the next xavi in la liga. whoever takes over from him will make la liga great again. Tebas is too afraid of taking risks.
We all know how Tebas is, discrimination is unacceptable at any level. Now, don't get fouled by London media trying to portrait their selves as an example, they are just shitting on their competitor. When England lost the euro final they beat up Italians and they never covered that. When their fans go to other countries they beat up people, they are quite xenophobic.
Ancelotti should have taken the team off the pitch and replay it in an empty stadium after the season ends. Any comments from Musah or the other black players on Valencia??
As a Barca fan I would have loved for this to happen. Nothing would be better than vardrid getting sent to a lower division but it would never happen under Tebas.
I'm not defending him but he was tone deaf and lashed out and instead of meeting vini and saying hey we have made complaints to the government, we have scheduled meetings with you to show and discuss the steps we are taking to ensure we can help this stop and maybe there is a breakdown in communication or it's coming off as we aren't helping you. I apologize and here is my number so we can meet up and discuss this. Instead he basically had a temper tantrum and publicly attacked him
He's probs been informed that LaLiga's in danger of very likely being sued by Corporate sponsors, stakeholders, broadcasters et al for frustrating their efforts to sell LaLiga TV rights globally. He's a PR disaster who's made his job untenable as far as stakeholders are concerned. Backtracking without backtracking and apologising for being 'misunderstood' rather than making a sincere apology. Can't speak for Spanish football supporters but they deserve a better although it depends on how many have the same mindset, is it him or society in general. The racist supporters sure have an accomplice. Ps how many of the 200 black LaLiga players, families and any black pple that watch LaLiga respect him?
So if youre Black and you get a Red card you just have to say that you were racially abused by the Fans. That way you can never get a Red card. Blessed if Black i see
I think bellingham should be in madrid.....the english press is known to be vocal and if he was in madrid the english press would highlight there in more detail....
A couple of roving drones, with cameras that zoom in and that can later on be used to identify those engaging in racist behaviour, should be allowed by La Liga, at least during Real Madrid games (even if Real Madrid initially has to shoulder the expenses). This is how Real Madrid FC can prove that it is protecting its own!🤔
Respectfully, Gibbs is talking utter nonsense when he says "Mpappe, Bellingham, these guys are so loved all over the world, they have the ability to change the opinions of the ignorant" If that really were the case, Pele would have done it, Michael Jordan would have done it, Usain Bolt would have done it, Ronaldo, would have done it, Ronaldinho..................
Steve Nicol asked the question that I've been trying to wrap my head around: How hasn't Javier Tebas been reprimanded and/or removed from his position?!?!
Fake apology 100000% sorry but still don’t trust him… instead of doing his job.. he scolded Vini for telling the truth… so fake apology ( he was force or just want to calm down things)
“I apologize you felt the way you did about the things i said, your feelings your problem, but dont be angry at me because they're your feelings not mine" - el presidente
How is it an apology when he's saying it's the readers' fault that they misinterpreted? He's sorry you read it wrong. Whenever there's "if" in an apology you have to understand that it's actually isn't one.
Appalling that Tebas had the audacity to write that out and still click “post”. He need to be bullied out of his position and ASAP. What an absolute muppet
That's one of the logical reasons why I rather spent my limited free time to watch the relegation battles of the English Premiere League, than El Clásico of the Spanish La Liga.
The "President of La Liga" initial response and unwillingness to act, prove he's racist too, in my opinion. How could he not defend Vini, the victim or even be objective. No, he chose to push back at a young, promising, black athlete who he feels is beneath him. Big mistake.
Javier Tebas only apologized for the backlashes he doesn’t mean any of this , next time something like this happens the players should just walk off the field and see what happens stricter measure need to enforce on these spectators referees and VAR
Well Vini isn’t the first black or Brazilain to face this, Spain and Italy needs to know the meaning of football, the game is not only about money or winning trophies
When the world comes knocking, everyone's quick to "apologize". It's too late for disingenuous, PR-esque statements. Kudos to Vini for not dropping this matter. Players like Samuel Eto'o faced this back in the 2000s and we're still here. Something had to give and thankfully social media creates a platform to help amplify your voice when it matters most.
As much as I support vini jr... brazil itself should be careful about branding other countries rascis, when Brazil the country dosen't have the best track record of racial tolerance itself
@ 13:45...when he says Spain is viewed as a racist country in Brazil. Spain is viewed as racist and has been viewed as such, in all of south america, for decades. it's weird to me that y'all calling out Spain, when this STILL happens in England, also in France, Italy, Netherlands, Germany soccer leagues.
Still no excuse for what’s going on with Vinicius. Condemn it. As soon as you put a “but” to all of this you’re just adding fuel to the fire and not helping.
This apology is not enough, he either says he is sorry and he was dead wrong or gets booted out of office or laliga goes under. These are the real options
Tebas' apologized because of the backlash across the world but Shaka is absolutely correct in saying that his tweet on Sunday was a real reflection on his opinion, and now he is afraid for his job (which he is lousy at btw). The abuse Vini Jr suffered from disgusted the world and Tebas' apology insulted the intelligence of the world population. Tebas' needs to realize that racism in Spain is prevalent and denying that fact isn't going to make it go away. Hopefully what is happening now is the start of significant improvement in the country although I think it will take time.
Of course it affects everyone as a young black man I always had a love for spanish cultures and ofcourse spain is such a significant piece of the spanish culture that one day I would've very much liked to visit and spend some time go to the stadiums and experience the atmosphere, Well now not so much I still want to go but now rather than excitement at the thought of experiencing something special there is concern that it may be ruined by racist actions.
Am still wondering how on the earth that mr tebas still has his job ( No resignation, No Impeachment, No Sacking).... its either spanish football is in support of tebas or tebas is the Principality of the Spanish league)
When this has been an ongoing problem for one player in the league and it has happened all season, you as the president need to sort this out and he's finally taken action on this because if not Vinicius Junior the face of La Liga and one of the best players in the world, might end up leaving the league because of this and it's a bad imagine on the league and players like Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham could reconsider a move to Real Madrid because why would they wanna go to a league that racially abuses black players and discriminate a player on their race. His teammates, compatriots, fans, and everyone in the football world are supporting him and the league has finally done their job because it cannot continue or else he could think about leaving and what would this mean for Bellingham and Mbappe if one of the best players in the world leaves La Liga because of racism would that impact their futures, I hope not because it's happened in Serie A and black players still play in that league, it's important to fight racism and the league has to do their job as well, what's happening with Vinicius Junior, the league is resolving it and I don't think racism in Spain would impact Mbappe or Bellingham 2 superstars who could possibly play for Real Madrid and their skin color is black, they might have to deal with that but it won't have an effect on their decisions.
