Honestly I think this just sold me on the cremas. “Humbucking but Tele” is like all I want out of most HB guitars.

Considering your tone and playing I 100% agree. I was originally gonna return them but if you wanted I could ship them to you. Let me know

@@markjohnstonofficial I put them in a Reverend Charger HB, and they are so versatile. I got the 4 wire so I can split them. I really like the single coil sound a lot! The humbuckers sound great too, very clear with more output and a slight mid push for lead stuff. Very articulate. Imo, they have a smaller “sweet spot” as far as height adjustment goes, but they are great at what they do.

This is pretty fascinating. So, here’s my take. I agree with you 100% that the Lamber tones sound great in your Les Paul. Having said that, if I didn’t see you with a Les Paul and had you not told us, I would think that you were playing a tele or of a Strat. Here’s where it gets even more interesting. I just replace the pick ups in my Yamaha 335 copy with Crema‘s. They sound absolutely amazing. The guitar was made in 1985. I replaced the stock pick ups with Seymour Duncan P rails two or three years ago. And when activated a single coils the Duncan P rails sound pretty decent, but the hum bucker‘s are super dark and muddy. personally, I couldn’t be happier with the Crema‘s. I do agree that they our clearer and more articulate than most home buckers that I’ve heard, but I really do like them. I have a 79 Les Paul custom with stock pick ups. If I am using the bridge pick up and it’s over driven, it’s amazing and I couldn’t be happier. But trying to use the pick ups in the middle and neck position with clean tones - it gets dark and muddy. I was seriously considering putting Lambert tone grinders in my Les Paul, but I have to say, you’ve made me reconsider.

The Grinder sounds like a really good PAF with the volume on 8. It’s missing some body and midrange that make humbuckers desirable.

No matter how well built or the reputation of the builder, some pickups just aren’t for everyone. I bought a set of Lambertones Blondies for my telecaster and found them to be the absolute best telecaster pickups I’ve ever heard. They are spectacular. Based on that I ordered a pair of Cremas for my Les Paul and ended up completely underwhelmed. They’re too bright and thin for what I look for in a humbucker. They sound really good, just not my style.

Great video man! I think I'd like the Lambertones set in a secondary LP, but agree that the Burstbuckers are better suited for true PAF/HB tones.

I tried a Crema set and the Grinder/Crema set and wasn’t really satisfied until I got a complete Grinder set. The Crema set was in a 335, and it was just kind of dull and thuddy. The Grinder/Crema set was in an SG and I had the same result with the Crema in that guitar. The Grinder though was waaaaay closer to what I was looking for. I thought the stark differences between the Grinder and the Crema didn’t complement each other as much as people seem to make them out to be. Now I’ve got a full Grinder set in the SG and I like it a lot more than the stock 490T/R set for the neck sound especially. The bridge isn’t a huge difference imo. The Grinder has more of the presence frequencies that I feel like the Crema really misses out on. Almost like the Crema has some hi cut filter on it or something that’s way too strong. I definitely wouldn’t pay full price for them though. The first set of Cremas was covered under a Reverb Safe claim, and then the Grinders were on a Black Friday deal.

Glad to hear I’m not the only guy who had this exact same thoughts and experience. I really wanted to love them but I don’t. They lack all of things I like about humbuckers. Best I can say is it’s a humbucker for people who hate humbuckers. There’s not enough mids and power to the sound.
@JeremyMcCant

Those lambertones are SUPER bright. I honestly didn’t even know you were using the neck pickup until I looked up at the video. They do lack body and weight to them. Maybe for someone looking for that SPECIFIC tone it would be good, but they seem really lacking.

Easy fix…put the original pickups in and lower the pickup and heighten the pole pieces until you get your perfect mix of throaty and articulate.

I had a LP before I had to let it go, thought the bridge distorted too easily (although just right for rock n' roll but I didn't play that genre enough) and the neck too dark and not clear enough. Would those be issues I could've fixed by adjusting pickup and pole piece heights? Never tried this before and learned something in this video.

I bought into the hype of the Suhr Thornbucker pickups. I replaced them into a parts guitar and WOW. l didn’t like them. Replaced the Thornbucker with a Sheptone.

Cremas are like fat noiseless single coils. I like that cos I'm a Strat/Tele guy. But they don't sound like typical PAFs. Personally I NEVER use neck HB, just doesn't do it for me. Horses for courses. I get why you wouldn't like the Cremas if you normally like typical PAF sound.

Thanks for this video, You mentioned you had a PRS, I have just got a PRS S2 custom 24 and I love the look of it but found I am not happy with the tone of the guitar and want to maybe replace the pickups. I previously had a Duesenberg Starplayer TV and I realize now what I lost 😅that thing sounded amazing. But I want to ask you your opinion how you think the Lambertones combo would go in the PRS? Grinder in bridge and Crema in neck? Thanks again 👍
@jimmyrigs
@jimmyrigs Год назад
Ultimately that’s up for you to decide. I know a ton of players in the church world that Swear by that exact combo, and ultimately i think for me it just wasn’t what I wanted or needed in that Les paul. I would likely put them in a different guitar If i still had them.

For who know about the first and originais PAF’s mades, they sounds like a “telecasters with steroids” with low output and more shine pickups, but for me is a big difference them u buy a hb closer original sound and someone want a les paul with single coil sound.

I think more than anything Lambertone's are overrated, people just want Curtis to succeed but tbh, those Burstbuckers had the magic to them that the Lambertone's didn't.

100% proof that most people think louder is better. Lambertones are are such a low output pickup they won't push your tubes like anything over 6k or 7k will. If your Pedal Pusher then you'll love the pickups. If you're trying to push your tubes the stock burstbuckers are probably the best pickup you can have in your standard Les Paul! Honestly I was slightly miffed at the fact you returned them cuz you got buyers remorse do to not understanding pickup output. Your video title should have been "CRAP" I SHOULD'VE PAID ATTENTION!
@jimmyrigs
@jimmyrigs Год назад
Lol i know about pickup output, and knew the sound I was going for in that specific guitar. I wouldn’t necessarily say buyers remorse, just returned them because it wasn’t what I wanted or needed in that guitar. I might pick up a grinder set in the near future for a different guitar though. Thanks for the comment
