@@johnsmith1474 A bit unfair. He’s driving a client’s pride and joy so he’s not going to upset him. I’m sure his client knows it anyway. He can’t take it too far and he can’t take it over the speed limit. North Wales police are strict and hard on people speeding however good the driver might be. I personally like the camerawork. I remember taking one (blue) out from Portman (George Street). A most amazing engine is the overwhelming memory... I wanted to do a deal to trade up to a Countach after 2 years. We couldn't agree - so I moved on. Ended up with a fibreglass 308 (from DK Engineering). Also a fabulous car... (and more beautiful).

In 1984 while working at a 4 start restaurant in Knoxville Tn. I was outside changing the Marquis and I first saw one. The customer couldn't get it it to start and he asked me where the nearest dealer was and I thought probably Atlanta Georgia ? I told him I had a lot of Fiats and we decided to roll it off lol ( 70K exotic) and it bellowed out the most glorious sound I'll soon not forget.Without a doubt the Jalpa and Javelin were the best sounding engines I've ever heard.

As someone with a Jalpa, it's nice to hear someone make a nice video with great audio quality and actually give it the beans. They make such a glorious sound. All the videos I see are early shifted and you hardly get a taste of the car. Love them so much. I've converted mine to EFI with ITBs and the response is a massive difference.

There's this stretch of road on the A45 in Olton, going from Acocks Green to Solihull which passes a petrol station and goes under the railway bridge. I was doing my A-levels in 1985/1986 and worked nights there on occasion. One Saturday night - actually Sunday morning around 2-3am - two of these came haring over the hill side-by-side towards me (away from Birmingham), with one of them on the wrong side of the road including going around the traffic lights on the wrong side - feet flat to the floor - one red and one black. From my vantage of the locked petrol station shop, they were probably in my view for no more than 3 seconds but I knew instantly what they were and remember them as clearly as if I were still standing there, open-mouthed. Two weeks later, two guys on custom sports bikes (built around Harris frames they told me - they were regular customers of the Mobil petrol station as it was back then) zoomed past going the other way, at least at 100mph, again both side-by-side and both pulling wheelies. I saw some odd things whilst working there (including a weird fight where two parties threw crockery at each other, smashing boxes of plates all over the forecourt - a story for another time) but also some occasionally glorious things (brand new red 635CSL, Ferrari Daytona, 4x rally-prepped 6R4s all stopping together to fill-up).

I owned a very early model, wonderful sound even better in the flesh. Good for 150...I've been told, flat out, what a noise. The steel roof section is stored behind the driver, in and its heavy. You won't bump into another one all year at car shows, and it's a Lamborghini, sold when it was just the Countach and that, oh and the LM could be found. Glorious sound and quite practical.

Living in South Florida, USA, every Lamborghini I see is in constant boulevard mode, a smug display of the owner’s wealth, driven like an Accord, the better to be seen. Seeing you put this Jalpa to its paces on the open road is a wonderful balm to the silliness I see daily.

Thanks, a great series…who else could have made this series? No one. These Lambos and most of the cars you feature are enigmas…when they were new there was no internet; to find out about them we were at the mercy of car magazines of the day. I was round the corner to Amari at lunchtime today so went to see what they had in. The usual range of modern Ferraris Lambos and McLaren. The car that I would have driven home was a Daytona tucked at the back of the showroom. I do like modern exotica, current favourite is the Huracan (topically), but for driving pleasure I prefer the analogue oldies.

I first saw one of these in the film Rocky 4, in 1985 where stallone was washing it in his driveway with the numberplate " SOTHPAW" (southpaw) if you look carefully , nice touch there I thought , along with a red countach in front of it, I believe he had just taken delivery of them both and wanted them in the film for his character . Awesome as always. Brings back memories of going down to London with my dad in the early 1990s to test drive a Jalpa at Pullicino Classics in London. My dad didn't have the balls to go ahead with the purchase but I'll never forget the hour long test drive we had with the roof off heading out of London on the A3. He turned down another one closer to home which was an ex Lambo UK or magazine featured car, Alan Hughes was selling it in Coppull, it was mint and I did my all to try to get my dad to buy it but he bought a 911 instead.

Jalpa is actually a Spanish word, referring as usual to a line of fighting bulls. It therefore has a Spanish 'J', pronounced as an 'H'. I personally don't find the Jalpa's eighties blocky styling that attractive. I can only imagine what a 3.5 updated Uracco would have been like. That truly was a pretty car. On the power, it is well known that Ferrari and Lamborghini lied through their teeth about power outputs and performance in the 1970s. A carb 308 probably made a true 230 BHP against the 250 quoted and that makes the drop for the 308i a little more understandable. Similarly, I would think the Jalpa was the first of the line where they actually had to tell the truth and it does indeed make 10% or so more than the 3 litre cars.
