The pumps are standard non-synchrnous motor fountain pumps from home depot ranging from 500 to 1500 GPH. They can be driven by a standard lighting dimmer

Thank you so much:) This is awesome information! I love learning how things work, even if it isn't something I'll do myself. I believe "learning something new" every once in a while helps to keep our minds sharp! I am looking forward to learning all about how to create "jumping water" with music! Why is it so important to remove ALL turbulence? Is there anyway to add colored lights to each "jet/stream of water?" So, there could be flashes of more than one color in a single spray? Thanks:) BOP

I saw another use coffee stirrers in place of drinking straws. Do you think that would be better for creating a nice flow? Thanks!

Thanks for the informative video. I want to know is it possible to make a laminar water flow from a 3feet long water blade kind of thing. Please reply.

No it's not necessary, it's just convenient to use for off the shelf parts. You can buy a coupling, cap, and pipe at the hardware store and you don't need a 6" diam chuck on your lathe to make the parts custom.

No, As the straws get smaller for the same given flow the Reyonlds # gets bigger, which would result in less laminar flow.

I am asking because I don't know anything about it and am trying to learn, so, none of it is "obvious" to me. Thanks:)
