Ahhh…the old gas pipe hammer holder….that takes me back! I’ve still got one somewhere and it’s totally worn to the shape of me Stanley steelmaster! Good job, hard on the knees tho. Respect! 👊🏻😊
Hi Tony🖐That's so cool that you had one, and still have it somewhere👊And yes, mine is also worn down like the steps in front of the church doors🤩Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
I felt envious watching you scribe to the wall unit tops in another video, pretty useful being that tall, but I guess there are pros and cons, it’s a long way down to the floor 😂 … sat here with my back having gone into spasms again it made me wince watching 🤣🤣🤣 … another great video thanks 👍
Sorry to hear your back is crook Kevin😩I get back pain every now and again, and as you well know, it's not nice😬Thanks for your comment and for watching 😎 Cheers Del
You know it John👍It was a bloody joke trying to fit the floor with everything coming in and out😬I almost had a tantrum😲Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Great job, Dell. I also love quickstep👍 The only thing I would have done is fitted a coir foot well on the front door, but the builder is the boss. Sad really when everything is spot on👍👍
Don't put a coir footwell in if you have dogs....I did on my tiled hall way and utility room floors...it was only after several visits to the carpet shop to buy more coir matting that the bloke there asked if I had dogs...I told him I did and he laughed and said they sell tons of it to dog owners as dogs love to piss on it..
i've done my whole house with Quickstep, and my old house. Old house i did the day weeek we moved in and it looked exactly the same 11 years later, it's simply the best laminate flooring you can buy.
Absolutely agree Chris👊I've fitted every offering of flooring there is over my time, and nothing has come close to Quickstep👍 Hard wearing, easy to lay and not even that expensive🤩Cheers Del
It's great laying floors when you get in the zone , I have 100 odd meter of floors to do next week, I am not doing frames or doors till I am finished the floors , so I can just bang the floor down no worries about frames architraves , this video Del is just the motivation I need thanks
Hi Mike🖐Putting that doorway at 45° made a huge difference to making that hallway work better, and it was a good shout by the builders👊Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Another cracking shift there. Any other floor and I think I be worried about the expansion but quickstep really does lock well and is bombproof. It’s just the in and out of that manifold cupboard causing pinch that may test it but I love your honesty on it and you know what to do and where to cut it there is ever an issue. Faultless.💪🏻
Hi there🖐Great comment and in all honesty, if this was my own job, I would have put a break between the main room and the hallway🤔I'm 99% sure that there'll be no issues with it being in one, and IF there is a problem then it will be the builders problem to fix and not mine, and as you say, be pretty easy to put in relieving cuts and door bars it needed👊Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter I agree Quickstep is a great product I've not had any issues with expansion unlike Howdens own brand. Been called back on my last long run to fit door plates. Great work as always, well done.
Nice one del🙌🏻🙌🏻 looks bloody lovely wish I’d of watched this before doing some the other week 🤣🤣 the stuff you used looks a lot easier and nicer to lay, stuff I used I had to lay it in the younger and groove and then what I’d call the perp joint had to smack it in with a scrap of wood (think it was called knock and click ) or something but one thing is when it was in it wasn’t pulling apart 🤣🤣 nice one 👍👍
Great video as always. As far as expansion on laminate flooring,if it needs relief in the future it's just a case of cutting in a door threshold here and there.
Absolutely Clint👍On my own jobs I tend to put a break in a hallway like this with a threshold bar over it like you say, but the builder wanted it all in one, and I'm pretty confident it'll be fine👌Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
i got told it needs a break if it's over 8m. but like been said, you can adjust it later on if needed. take the skirting off on one end and cut a bit more off if it starts compressing and squeeking in the middle.
@@garnhamr Hi Kradd👍Yeah, I've read something like that too, but in my experience, it's pretty stable and doesn't move much at all👊Thanks for your comment 😎 Cheers Del
@@garnhamr you can just be really generous with the perimeter gap to start with too. As long as the skirting covers. One step further would be to releive the plaster. But that's taking it a bit too far
nice one. have you tried the down cut jig saw blades howdens usually send out with there kitchens. they cut the flooring really good as long as you have the saw set on 0
Hi there🖐I haven't tried the Howdens ones, but I did try some Bosch ones which do go blunt quite quickly😬Thanks for your comment and for watching😎Cheers Del
Great video bud I own flooring stores one thing I would watch out for is when you put pressure on the skirting to push down before fastening I had a flooring complaint rejected from manufacturer last week, the independent inspector stated skirting was fitted too tight to the floor stopping any expansion to be fair I thought it was ridiculous as expansion wasn't the issue (poor quality locking system in my opinion) but keep an eye out if you have any issues if you generally use quickstep your on good footing anyways lol
Hi Eric🖐Appreciate your comment, especially as you are in the flooring game👍I probably fit upwards of 50 floors a year, all with Quickstep, and, as yet have only had to go back to one, (which ironically, I got one of my subbies to fit), because it had expanded slightly and popped up in a hallway due to being fitted to tight in certain places😬I suspect the hallway/entranceway was getting a bit more moisture from wet feet etc🤔 Thanks again for the great points in your comment and for watching🤩Cheers Del
Nice one Del. 44 sq m with all the cuts is good going at your age lol. And a bit jammy with it all lining up, I would definitely tell people i'd planned it that way 😉
Yeah, I properly done myself on this one Malcolm as I was fitting this 5 years ago for £10pm🤔(my builders got a right deal paying me £220 for the day🤨) Thanks for watching🤩Cheers
Hi Dan🖐Perhaps, if I was a different kind of RU-vidr, I would have made out that I planned the floor to work as well as it did😮but the fact is, it was pure luck bud😇See you soon fella😎
That sort of flooring has got better over the years. From the original glue up. Then the spring clips. To the clip lock system. Have done miles of the stuff. But personally hate it. Wouldn't put it in my house. Always sounds hollow when you walk on it, like drummy tiles. Very thin veneer that if you scratch it can't be touched up. Damage a board. Pain to get out. It can look effective. And the colours have improved. But it doesn't like getting wet if you have a house water incident. Doesn't like being in full sun. Say big patio glass door. Horrible stuff to retro fit to a house with skirt already down. Then you get into the trim over expansion gap scenario. Looks good when you first lay it. But over the years I have seen some horror stories. Some fitter induced. Owner abuse. Or just product not fit for purpose. Repairs never easy. Still not in my house.
Hi Dave🖐Taking on the points of your comment, I do have to say that this Quickstep flooring is VERY hardwearing and takes an ABSOLUTE beating and still looks good, and, we fitted a flat out with it a few years ago which flooded leaving the flooring submerged for a weekend. We pulled it all up, dried the flat out, and then refitted the flooring😵Couldn't believe it was still ok🤯Thanks for your comment bud😎Cheers
Great series! How much gap are you leaving round the edges for wood movement? And a slightly more random question - where did you get your foam kneel mat?
Hi there🖐I leave the standard 10mm gap around the floor edge👍and my kneeler pad is just an offcut of 25mm packaging foam I scrounged from a packaging company I did a job for🤩Cheers Del
Great job, as always Del. 👍 But thin cheap laminate. Not my cup of tea tbh. Guess the 'builder' gets what yhe builder wants eh! Anyway, thanks for sharing another great video... know how your knees must be feeling, just finished laying 30 odd meters of porcelain tile. (Oh, is that the time opp's!). Respect 👊
@@thetallcarpenter Cheers pal. Yupp, the old knees are a bit p'd off at the mo, but it'll pass. Up and on to the next job.🙄 [And as me old man use to say... "work it off princess - no time for tea and sympathy on this job site"!] 😂
Great video. Got me thinking should i fit laminate on a kitchen floor BEFORE the base units go in OR wait until all the kitchen units are in. Only problem is i have a suspended concrete floor. What would go underneath the laminate ? Room is 3.2 x 2.6m
Hi there🖐I'm assuming you have insulation and then screed on top of yours block and beam floor🤔If so, you need an underlay to suit whether you have underfloor heating or not👍
No insulation and no real way of fitting it . Crawl space underneath. House built 1929. Still trying to clear throat after taking down a lathe ceiling ..
Nice to see you are human Del. You have to have a sense of humour to loose, which you definitely have 👍🏻 Edit: Question, do you plane the bottom of the door, or track saw to nip the bit off the bottom?
Hi Doug🖐You cant take yourself too seriously bud, and I use the planer to whip a bit of the door bottom, just because its quicker to get off the van😎Thanks for watching👍
@@thetallcarpenter fair play Del. That is difference between Pro and DIYer. Me tracksaw, straight line less error potential, less you cut 5cm off instead of 5mm…… 😉
Great video. Your knees must be singing afterwards, quick question Tall Carpenter how tall are you, watching you fit architraves look like you have dip your head walking through doorways 🤣😂🤣😂
Great stuff as usual, once you get going that quick step is very easy to put down , as you said once your in that zone , thought you'd have used a battery nailer or is just what your used to working with?
Hi Stuart🖐I only work on day work now bud and only earnt half for the day that I would have done at £10pm😬Still, money's not everything I guess🤨Cheers Del
have fitted quick step agree great to fit quick question just laying floor for kitchen dinner but not quick step it's from coretec all my cutting of my gloss panels was with a fine tooth hand saw no chips but made one mistake forgot to allow 8mm gap under a end panel your advise on using a multi tool on it ps can't remove panel
Hi Dell, my knees ack just watching you ha. Great Job. I was delighted that your calculations from the chalk line worked out a treat. Do you use a chop saw to cut the boards or a gilatean?
@@thetallcarpenter I have to say I get great enjoyment from watching your talents being put to great use. I wish I had someone like you guiding me when I started out. @@danthechippie4439 Its comments like this one of yours Dan, that really help stay me motivated to keep on making the videos🤗Overall, I'm REALLY lucky with the quality of my viewers and the great comments I get😎Thank you bud
Its great stuff Kyle👍If its UFH I use Quicksteps dedicated, thin underlay, and if not then I use 'Excel' heavy duty stuff👊Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Hi James🖐I have talked about my journey with Air nailers before James👍and yes, I love my little 18g Brad nailer and wouldn't be without it👊Thanks for watching and your comment 😎 Cheers Del
Hi Philip🖐It's a Roughneck 'knocking bar' from Toolstation👍and I actually cut it down and refixed the handle so I've got a big one for knocking the edges, and a short one for knocking the ends👊Thanks for watching 😎 Cheers Del
Hi Max🖐It's a 2 part 'mitre bond' type adhesive. You put the glue on one surface, and then spray the activator on the other. Sets in less than 10 seconds😲It's just like superglue👊
Got a few questions, I am going to lay a floor through out the whole downstairs off the house, should I work it all from the hall way? Would you start from the doorway into the living room or start from the centre off the hall as the door way isn't quite centre of the hall?
Hi fella🖐When the carpet fitters did the bedrooms, he fitted an 'L' shape, self adhesive trim to the floor, pushed tight to the doors frame👍Looks really smart and clean👊Cheers Del
Hi Michael🖐I did mention the adhesive in the earlier video I did on architrave and skirting, but its Evostick 'Sticks like s**t'😮Thanks for watching😎Cheers Del
Hi Andrew🖐Well spotted and it is different due to the floor being laid over underfloor heating. The stuff I used in this video is specifically for UFH made by Quickstep👍Cheers Del
@@thetallcarpenter it’s like a rubber flooring a talk them in to that now fully waterproof scratch resistant also cut it with a knife no expansion joints required
