As a hot wheels collector, I think it's super cool that they are bringing them back. The only down side is our hobby is being ruined by scalpers. It's so hard to find anything worth buying in the store.

Wheels aren’t an issue for me. They are historically accurate. I’ll be looking for that GT LM and the 911’s. The chase looks killer!

My one reason for collecting Car Culture more dedicatedly than mainlines is because of the metal base and rubber tyres. So I am slightly upset that these new wheels don't have rubber tyres, but I also understand why. It's a very nice and truthful modern take on the 2010 Speed Machines and I'm glad that the Porsche GT3 and Ford GT have very period-appropriate liveries as well. I'm definitely looking forward to getting this whole set.

I am happy the wheels stayed plastic like the original wheels. I think it would have been nice to have rubber tires on the CHASE car and you would have been able to satisfy both versions of the tires. I didn't collect the speed machines when they came out, wish I would have. I will be collecting the new series speed machines.

Definitely wishful thinking on my end, but I think as long as the plastic tires stay with the Speed Machine line, then I don't take issue with it. The whole thing with that tied the series together where the wheels to begin with and I can see that fit the whole bit with Car Culture as a whole, considering the reach HW has in that sense. Outside of that though, and then there will be major issues, I'd reckon.

The #4 gt was also made famous as the screen car for I believe gran Turismo 4

Good point on the F1 GTR. That would have been nice. Especially for those of us that don’t have any from the older mixes. I’m sure we will see it if they continue with this series. Which I’m sure they will. Maybe even a spin-off from Car Culture. As for the wheels, I’m fine with them as a homage to the past, but it definitely would have been nicer with real rider tires. I mean the wheel itself is homage enough.

I never realized that some wheels are plastic & some rubber, until today 🤔. My focus is the look of the car 🤷🏾‍♂️. I use to have Tyco & AFX race track sets…& I remember those cars having rubber tires for traction…it shouldn’t matter for Hotwheels, in my opinion. 🏎

I hate Real Rider wheels. I race the cars in tournaments so I'm still trying to find the new ones out in the wild.

Tell me all those Hotwheels series aren't a mess.

As a collector, honestly, I’d prefer ever wheels, we’re spending the same money as a regular premium that has rubber wheels, there’s no reason they shouldn’t be included on these models. They have the research and technology to include the same rim design, but add a rubber tire around it. It’s part of the car culture line, there’s never been a car culture vehicle with plastic wheels. Why start now because you’re introducing an old set again? if you’re going to introduce the old set, they’ve done a good job, but add rubber wheels, keep the same value. We’re paying more for a product is missing one less component than the previous.

I get that they legitimately brought back an old series which is awesome. But the fact they put them in a series like car culture with plastic tires and plastic spoilers and charging the same as a “normal” premium casting just doesn’t jive with me. This set does nothing for me and I’ll stick with boulevard’s and other sets.

so people start selling hot whee;s in vending machine, i would usually check it out to find something good i did find, i noticed there's a speed machine packaging, but didn't check too much. then i took a glance at it and i'm like "wait a minute, did hot wheels have speed machine mclaren 720s back in the days? i don't think so, there's also zonda r. did hot wheels just released speed machine back? they really did"

I'm all for the new CM6 wheels! I've said this a lot, but it means we're a step closer to Acceleracers rereleases! But in the context of a Speed Machines revival, they look great! I love the use of them on the Zonda R. With that era of car, it really feels right at home with the original series

the plastic wheels make it roll better, that's what I like about them. They're both stylish and practical!

I think collectors are forgetting that these aren’t made only for adult collector. It’s “hot wheels” not tarmac or kyosho 🤦🏻

It's amazing to have these wheels back. Honestly, they lack a bit of detail compared to the old ones but I guess that's how things work, everything sky rocketed in price so its to be expected. And the fact that people don't claim this premium cause it don't have rubbers means they know absolutely nothing about how expensive these wheels were back in the day and probably still are. Overall, its an amazing set and I love to have the speed machines name back. Looking forward to more mixes on this!

I don't mind that the tyres are plain plastic but I'd like to think Premium cars would all have real riders.

I honestly prefer the plastic CM wheels, they are making this new mix an authentic continuation to the Speed Machines line instead of just a homage, also, they are still 2 piece wheels, so, at least to me, they are still premium wheels I can’t wait to get them!

I don't think the cold mold wheels are so great that it makes up for plastic tires. I mean, make excuses for the cost all you want, but plastic on plastic on plastic isn't expensive.

Finally, a hotwheels premium that don't suck at track 🤣 because the tires

I personally prefer cm6 wheels over real riders, especially the old cm6 ones; Fell in love with them at first sight

I think it would be very fitting that since these were initially developed for Acceleracers and then came to Speed Machines, we could see the new CM6 wheels that were made for the new Speed Machines release to be used for a small rerelease/special set of Acceleracers. Something that's interesting to me is on the MattelCreations NFT roadmap, for Q2 of 2023, it says, "Collect a fan favorite: Return to a beloved Hot Wheels realm, with new digital cars and an ultra-exclusive diecast." In the Acceleracers movies, the tracks were called Realms, so maybe just MAYBE they could show up as NFT cars soon? I know a lot of Acceleracers fans would likely fork over the cash for NFT packs if it meant some of those cars returned as an extremely limited run line.

Absolutely not buying the real riders are a fraction of a cent more expensive than plastic wheels. Why are they always sold for 4-6 dollars (each) just for wheels even from mattel. John i love u man but that argument is disingenuous and u know it.

I say without the CM6 wheels there would be no point in bringing these back, they wouldn't be Speed Machines anymore. Its not budget cuts, its not anything sleazy, its just keeping it authentic to the original line. Besides they still have the metal on metal build, full paint detail, and Ive seen RLC cars use plastic wheels too.

I am trying to find the answer to why this should exist. I don't care for it. Not sure this weird tier of diecast has a place. Competing companies give you so much more for the same price point and none of the bullshit of dealing with Mattel's product pipeline.

Real Rider tires actually slow the cars down on a track. It can't be Speed Machine fast without plastic tires, and they are FAST.

Not bothered at all. I think I may prefer the wheels. The wheels look realistic and have plenty of detail. They also roll much better than rubber wheels.

What a rip off because in theory, they’re not a car culture cars their main line and cost about the price of real riders with rubber tires😡

I think the price is a little too much, I get it, is the return after so long, but now you are competing with RLCs, Premiums Car Cultures and boulevards, and let's not forget the STH's all with real riders; I think the price should be at least $3 to $3.50 like the old days in 2010. Of course with the current cost of living economy raises.

I couldn’t care less it the wheels are plastic or rubber. Rubber doesn’t necessarily make the wheels better. All Tomica Premium models have plastic wheels yet they look better than most “premium” models Hot Wheels puts out. I think it is cool that Hot Wheels is paying homage to the speed machines line in this way and since it is part of Car Culture I will be buying this set.

Very cool that they brought back the speed machines back. As far as the tires go.. Well as a collector of course I would've liked rubber tires. We have to remember. These are TOYS made in mind for kids. Us "grownups" have made it into something else. So like you said plastic tires are for the track. To do exactly that gain speed on the track. I like them. I do wish they had kept that color matching trim on the wheel. ✌🏼👍🏼🙏🏼

They are not speed machines if they don’t have plastic wheels. However they should be cheaper

I much prefer the plastic tire they can last longer than a rubber.

The real missed opportunity was the 720 should have been the P1! The old speed machines generation had the F1! The new speed machines generation should have kicked off with the F1’s replacement, the P1 in a matching deco! It makes too much sense, plus the P1 has been in premium so we know the tooling out there.

Can’t wait for these to be put on even more models. I loved these wheels so much. I would love designer competition ones again like the dodge, lotus, etc. Acceleracers would be of course the best though

I am very excited for the new speed machines, as cool as they would be with real riders on them i am looking forward to having the original style tires in wheels.

If people enthusiastically buy these at plastic wheel Premiums at the same price as Real Rider Premiums … you know what Mattel’s next move is going to be.

The white "4" Ford is identical to the version in the 2018 Gran Turismo range, on PR5s with no rear light details. You're too kind & polite about calling the Veneno an Aventador, because the car was derived from the Aventador, as was the SCV12 Essenza. No need to make apologies. I'm lucky to own one SM original model, which was the burned orange McLaren F1GTR without racing deco

The Lamborghini Veneno was used in the 2016 Entertainment: Gran Turismo set.

Hmmm at first I couldn’t wait. Now I’m feeling like this set is anti climatic. The Ford GT in white already comes as a basic in the exact same livery.. Mclaren 720s is a F1 tribute car in papaya orange, bit boring. The real life tribute 720s has the dope F1 GTR grey five spoke wheels. Lambo & Zonda boring. The zonda basic was better than this new version and the porsche is also meh. Even the chase is kinda lame. Wheres the race cars!?

I managed to pick the McLaren and Ford up in the wild here in the UK. £8 GBP over here. The ford livery looks very similar to the Gran Turismo 4 cover car. Just looked it up. Very similar and it’s a number 4.

Okay, so they brought back the co-mold wheels in plastic and we're paying premium Car Culture prices for it. I can live with this once, mostly in the name of "Speed Machines tradition." I guess the critical question that determines if I become indignant or not is, Do they do it again?? Cause you know, we're not going to shoot these down the track. We're paying premium prices for realism, not speed.

According to the movie lore (Acceleracers), those tire threads can be changed while driving.

My message to Mattel, stop cheating your client base…metal / metal equals rubber tyres. Making your share holders happy at the expense of your customers will come back and bite you in the arse big time,….apology required / expected!

I think there is a spectrum of opinions regarding plastic wheels on speed machines: from unacceptable to "I like it". I think the question would be, how many think that plastic wheels are better than rubber on those? Just to have some idea, anyone who prefers rubber can thumbs up and who prefers plastic thumbs down

Hey there I’m looking to create a collection of cars I’ve owned over the years. I wanted to do them all in custom paint to match and then most importantly I wanted to build one with rubber tires to display and one with plastic to play with my son with. I cannot for the life of me find nice plastic replacement or custom wheels. Would anyone be able to help direct me to plastic tire custom wheels like the rubbers I’ve been finding? I very much appreciate it. I’d hate to only have the option to cannibalize such nice cars like these for their premium plastic wheels.

I don't care what the material is, the old style molded wheels just look very bulky and dated compared to what we have today. Even basics today have better and sharper lines

I think the 720s must be based on the Daniel Ricardo’ personal 720s.

real riders cars were not meant for racing because the rubber tire caused friction and slowed the cars down. by using the plastic tire with less friction to race faster but unfortunately either the new car is too low or too heavy they dont fair well in down hill drags.

I don't know if it is me or the speed machine Porsche chase looks like the Matchbox Super Chase with different wheels.

10:30 The "Ford GT" text looks crisper and cleaner on the old casting. One of the problems I have with modern Hot Wheels casting, is though the tampos tend to be more detailed, Mattel doesn't do a really good job in making them. Some of the modern tampos look like they were printed by a cheap inkjet printer.

I've never really understood the fascination with real rider tires. The ones from the 90s are not attractive. That being said, I really like the comold wheels from the 1995 treasure hunt series. The spoked wheels look much better and they have a thinner tire side wall. Car culture has been a big success. I collect some of the car for their full tampos and the rim design. The rubber tires doesn't add much. So yes I think these speed machines with the co mold wheels is the right choice. It will be interesting to see which cars they pick for the next mix.

If there’s one part of a Hot Wheels casting that *should* be plastic, it’s the wheels. Rubber tires on cold mold wheels? On a “speed” machine? Terrible idea. 🤮 I think the cold molds are super, but would like to see more styles offered.

Mark Jones designed the originals. The next time you could compare the CM6 with the PC6, which were a 2 piece plastic wheels. Those PC6 were used in the 90s FAO Schwarz and Treasure Hunts

would've loved either the Mclaren F1 GTR too or even the Gallardo, instead of 720s/Veneno. Something like the Pininfarina Battista would've suited the line too.

I have that McLaren and countach somewhere from when I was a kid. My mom got me them for Christmas but I remember she originally said 3 dollars was too much considering I only ever bought 1 dollar cars. Would love to buy some again but not at the current prices
